I have so many bird feeders. I'll have to check and see what I can find that is in good shape and take some pictures for you. We probably have some bird houses too are you interested in those? In knowing a bit about birds, I can tell this bird is a woodpecker. That led me toward the ID quite easily, even without knowledge of Costa Rican species. See the link I provided to find it. Perhaps you could verify that this website has the species named correctly, as I only spend a few seconds on this. I think Black Pheobe is the one!! I checked these photos online (see link below) and as soon as I saw these pictures I said "That's it!". The markings are similar to a Junco, but that beak or bill is very distinctly different. Wish I had a better camera! I am so excited to learn more about this adorable bird. I've watched it swoop down and catch tiny moths or other insects...sometimes in mid air. Thank you all for replying and for taking interest. Could be a Purple Finch, although the head looks more House Finch to me. Can't see the undertail coverts clearly enough.
