Check out the message "Currants and Blueberries in Container?". I have my blueberries in large pots under a tree, where they get morning to noon sun and shelter from the hot afternoon sun, have a good acid soil, and don't have to compete with tree roots. It's not hard to move them as the sun pattern changes over the year, if necessary. Southmoon is giving me the best flavor and size right now, but the pot is further away from the tree, gets more sun. More blueberry plants make the best companion planting. Then there's enough for you and the birds. A territorial bluebird and several mockingbirds guard the bushes from each other in my yard, and an occasional squawk is heard as one chases the other off.

I vote for Finch's. I have been there, but my original six bushes came by mail. They are now about 18 years old and still producing more than we can eat. Make sure you buy several varieties. I have three different kinds, and they ripen at slightly different times. So, if we don't have a drought and they turn into raisins, I have blueberries almost the entire summer. Don't forget to order some bluebird houses from Finch's. They are a great addition to any property. Oh, our local 4-H has used Finch's also.

Will - I think I could squeeze a few of your plants in, just joking! I'm getting nervous that I'm running out of room. I suppose the upside is that I'll get to sit back and watch it all grow. There aren't that many more spots for trees. Maybe another 50 full-sized trees, and then the process of actually gardening the land will become, available... the planting of dwarfs and miniatures in defined settings. Everything now had absolutely no plan, except, I created my backyard first planting Picea omorika 'Gotelli Weeping' and my first tree on the front side of my house was a Pinus contorta var. lat. 'Chief Joseph'. I then just kept building around these. The seedlings I planted all in about 250 have absolutely no rhyme or reason. It's been fun. Dax

We have five bushes that are about four years old and two larger ones that are seven years old and one small one that had blueberries, but they dried up on the bush. I am definitely not letting them get any taller. Thanks you all for commenting, Casey, Linda, Val, Ellie, and Avedon, Delayed Arrival is the prettiest I remember it ever being. Jean and Ellie, I really love Bear Claws it is a huge bloom too and seems to have a thicker than usual consitency. Casey and Val, I was very surprised that Water Drops rebloomed since this is its first year (planted in the fall). ngraham, mockingbirds are one thing, crows another. I don't care for crows either, and they are smart! Casey, I love to sit and watch and listen to birds. I will have Goldfinch pictures either Saturday or sunday (have to work tonight, so depends on when I get up tomorrow...took the pics this afternoon).
