New plant rescues, what are they and now do I repot? Or should I?
Comments (13)Indeed I was thinking slugs, as my amigo Jeff has stated...Prevalent mostly at night and early morning when conditions are warm and humid or wet... Succulents with their thick leaves and abundant moisture are ideal fodder for slugs and snails. Christopher...See Morerepotting pothos, kalanchoe longiflora and snake plant
Comments (1)Actually, do what you want to do, either repot or start new plants from the clippings of the pothos and kalanchoe.. divide the snake plant and give them away, its entirely up to you.. snake plants seem to like being pot bound but after 3 years its time for new soil.....See MoreSnake Plant Repotting Question
Comments (4)Hello, I just found this forum. I had no idea there was a whole organization just for this type of plant. Anyway, my neighbor gave me a snake plant about ten years ago, which was pretty scruffy looking. It is taller than I am now, which is 5'4". What a great species. It has done well. We have put it in a bigger pot, and now it is crowding out that one. It flowers several times a year and smells absolutely heavenly. But it's strong, and my husband made me move it away from his desk. It gets a southern exposure in a sunny room. So, should we put it in yet another pot? The one it's in is a 12" x 12" straight-sided cylinder, very heavy ceramic. I don't know how I'd get it out of there. It's a pretty, contemporary white glazed style, too. I'd rather not break it. Do I have to repot it? Will it be a lot happier if I do? I want it to be happy....See MoreWhen should I transfer a brand new snake plant??
Comments (3)Hi Amany, You may not need to at all (as long as it has a drainage hole as you mentioned). Many Snake plants (Sans.) like to be tight in their pots & they often look nicer that way. Many folks just leave them in the same pot for ages until they either have roots coming out the bottom or their roots literally break out the bottom of the pot. I wouldn't worry about it at all, I'd wait 'til Spring when it speeds up in growth & then you can reconsider this if you like. As an example, I just got a nice, short style Sans. for cheap off a plant sale table ($1 for a 4" pot, one overgrown rosette & three smaller ones). I only repotted it to move it from plastic pot to clay (as I have been known to overwater the shorter style Sans & clay helps counteract that). Also the overgrown rostette is making it lopsided & by moving it into clay I was able to center it better in the pot & also given the added weight of the clay pot, it's less likely to topple over. Hope this helps (HTH)....See Morehellkitchenguy Manuel
