Has anybody grown the climber Nahema?
Comments (8)Nahema should be able to survive well in zone 5 without any particular protection, though as always you should bury the graft if grafted and mulch the roots in the growing season for moisture and soil conditioning. I winter protect all my roses in zone 5 Nebraska, but Nahema survives reliably above the protection. I have rarely seen a rose, let alone a climber, take off so quickly and bloom so well in its first year, and it has already stretched both ways on a 6' fence. I love it, and with the intricately double blooms, terrific foliage, and good scent - what's not to love? Cynthia...See MoreWS Miniature Roses? Can It Be Done?
Comments (2)Brad, This info is from Botanical Interests online catalog Rose Angel Wings HEIRLOOM Seeds Rosa chinensis Item #1224 Perennial to USDA zone 4. These charming little roses may take a while to sprout, but when they do " WOW! You may watch them every day to see how they have grown. Plants begin to flower at just a few inches tall. They may already be in bloom in their containers before you transplant them outdoors! Single and double flowers in shades of pink and white are no-fuss and easy to grow. A beautiful choice for containers on a sunny patio, porch, or balcony. Reliably hardy to USDA zone 4 in garden beds and borders. I have never purchased seeds directly from them, but have purchased a few of their seed packets locally in a garden shop and was very satisfied with them. Lady Banks rose is hardy to zone 6A, I believe. you should check over on the rose forum. I'm sure someone has some info to provide you on her. Comments (2)Hello cecily9, I wonder if the particular cultivar that you have will make a difference in growing indoors. There are hundreds of kinds of miniature roses and I suspect some take to the indoors better than others. I have a miniature rose in a south window sill right along side a seafoam rose and the seafoam has bloomed repeatedly while the miniature rose is just hanging on. By now you have probably read most of the info available so you know what your up against and how to deal with a lot of issues that will come up. Hang in there and hopefully you will come up with a good method to keep roses indoors....See MorePruning Miniature Roses
Comments (4)No pruning now. You want to prune in late winter/early spring when the forsythia (yellow flowering shrub) is in bloom. In this area, it would be sometime from late March to mid-April. No more fertilizing either (that should have stopped in August). And just as an FYI, "miniature" refers to the size of the bloom, not the size of the plant. I have a couple of minis that will top out at 5' tall this year (they usually range from 3' - 4' tall). Some varieties are smaller, some larger....See MoreUser
