Tomato Robber
Comments (10)You guys are FAST! Thanks for the help. I think Verdin may be it. Mary, I had my tomatoes covered with some bird netting earlier, when they were first getting ripe and the plants were still putting on a lot of growth. I think for next year we will build a structure that will make it easier to cover with the netting. Just draping it over didn't work very well. Gotta figure out something that doesn't violate HOA CC&Rs. What I have now is a raised planter and as you can see in the video, a piece of cattle fencing to support the plants. I really like this fencing, it's perfect for the job to support the plants and allow access to the fruit. It's perfect for the bird to access the fruit, too. My San Marzanos are left unmolested for the most part, maybe because the plant is in a pot, the branches are sprawling unsupported and the fruit is mostly hanging under them. It's harder for a bird to watch for predators, to reach the fruit, and to get in and out. If I see holes they are only on fruit that is more exposed. The good news is that these are also my best tasting tomatoes. :)...See MoreHelp me plant a new conifer bed!

Nine state legislators from the Mexican state of Sonora traveled to Tucson to complain about Arizona's new employer crackdown on illegals from Mexico. It seems that many Mexican illegals are now returning to their hometowns and the officials in the Sonora state government are ticked off about it. A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to say Arizona 's new employer sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state. At a news conference, the legislators said Sonora - Arizona 's southern neighbor, made up of mostly small towns -cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools it will face as illegal Mexican workers here return to their hometowns without jobs or money. The law, which took effect Jan. 1, punishes employers who knowingly hire individuals who don't have valid legal documents to work in the United States. Penalties include suspension of, or loss of, their business license. The Mexican legislators are angry because their own citizens are returning to their hometowns, placing a burden on their state government. 'How can they pass a law like this?' asked Mexican Rep. Leticia Amparano-Gamez, who represents Nogales . 'There is not one person living in Sonora who does not have a friend or relative working in Arizona ,' she said, speaking only in Spanish. 'Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous problems it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and sending money to their families return to hometowns in Sonora without jobs,' she said. "We are one family, socially and economically,' she said of the people of Sonora and Arizona. If you enter the US illegally you are a CRIMINAL and should be treated like one. Comments (20)Today is the day! The guys are here. Company name is Ecola. They have treated our attic with extreme heat. They said the upstairs rooms will be like a really hot day, and had us move our oil paintings downstairs to protect them. They have started drilling into studs that show signs of infestation and they are injecting those with that virus. He explained the virus is now in the wood, and once the termites touch it and touch each other, the entire colony will be killed. Hubby negotiated with them for a better price and saved about $500. This treatment cost us $1800, and our house and decks are pretty big! This includes a warranty. They just left for lunch and will be back to finish later. They will probably inject all the wood decks surrounding this house. Happy they didn't have to tent!...See MoreLoveplants2 8b Virginia Beach, Virginia
