My garden is wearing out early and fast......
Comments (7)Jimmy56, I don't know what others do, but here's my process for freezing tomatoes: I slice a cross on the bottom non-stem end of each tomato, then I drop them in a big pan of boiling water, about 4-6 at a time depending on how big the tomatoes are. I leave them in there until I just start to see the skin split, but really not more than 30 seconds. Use tongs to pull them from the water and drop them in a big bowl of ice water. I let them sit there and cool then pull them out and set them on a towel. The cross I slit on the bottom just helps to peel the skin off. I skin them all, then cut them in half and scoop or squeeze out the seed pulp as best I can, leaving only the meat. I chop that up and throw it in a big bowl. When I've got all my tomatoes blanched, peeled, seeded and chopped, I scoop them into freezer bags of various sizes. Mark and date it with Sharpie. Throw them in the freezer. They do end up watery when thawed. When I am using them as a base for sauce, I simply put them in a pan and reduce them. The water will boil off and they'll thicken as they cook. I also toss them in soup. When I do that, I don't care that they're watery onacounta it's soup, heh. I prefer freezing over canning as I find it's less hassle. Plus I don't have to worry about doing it wrong and accidentally poisoning my family, LOL I work with a woman who just puts the whole tomatoes in freezer bags. She says when thawed they'll peel easy so you don't have to go through the blanch process I do. I just prefer to do the work ahead of time so when I take them out of the freezer, I can start cooking....See MoreWhere do you work when the body wears out?
Comments (11)"When your body is worn out"..... humm. We don't think it will ever happen to us until it actually heppens, but it sure does happen - it's inevitable. I was hopping around a squash court only about 5 or 6 year ago, but now at 65, getting on a treadmill only for 30 min. daily is a big deal. Once you get over the hill, down slope seems to get increasingly steeper.... ;-( Since we accumulate knowledge and become wiser through experience, it is natural that we pass them on to less experienced people. Or, we may become smart enough to hire people to have them do most of physical labor. There are few more choices I can think of; One is to establish nichey expertise. One good xample is my wife. she is specialized in prunine Japnese maple tree. She mastered it through experience and self-learning, and become a real master. And, she is expensive now. (Come to think of it, she has always been expensive.... haha). Another choice is what I am doing - to introduce something new. If you go and look at this Forum ÂÃ Professional ÂÃ Irrigation ÂÃ Electrolysis Water Agriculture, you will see one project I am introducing now. There are so many things we don't know in this world; every country has its own unique things and method. It is a real fun to introduce new things, and when and if it turns into a business, it would be even better....See MoreDoes a computer wear out?
Comments (10)I would not consider having to replace a hard drive as a computer being worn out. Updating an older pc is fairly easy to do and can keep them lasting a good long time. Adding the max amount of RAM is the first very good option, if the hard drive is running low on space cloning the drive to a larger hard drive is a very good option and hard drives are not terribly expensive. If and when things on the mother board start to break or deterioate then those are things I start to consider as wearing out, however even a mother board can be replaced, but at that point cost vs a new one should come into play. doing a lot of good housecleaning on a pc and keeping it updated and free of malware and keeping all that excess junk from building up on the drive and you can have a pc that last many many years. Some of mine are quite old and going strong. If it has not been defragged in a long time that is certainly something to consider doing. I think you mentioned it was an emachine, they are not the highest quality product and some of their stuff has had negative reviews, it would depend on your model, your RAM your hard drive capacity etc. Run a belarc on it and that can tell you a lot of info and you can provide some of that here to give us more ideas. Comments (26)I have the LG 3570 washer, which is a newer, roughly-equivalent washer to the 2277. Before that I had an Asko FL washer, which was gentle on clothes. When I first got the 3570 I noticed some cheaper, flimsier childrens clothes came out looking worn after using the Cottons/Normal cycle. I switched to using Perma Press for most clothing items, which seems to work okay. For towels and socks I use the Cottons/Normal cycle. I have noticed some of my towels have developed holes in them. They happen to either be rather cheap or rather old (14+ years). One thing that might contribute to this is the force exerted on them by the High speed spin. Perhaps reducing the spin speed to a Medium might help prevent holes from forming. I should also mention that a number of towels also showed wear after a number of years from being washed in the Asko. Usually, tears started forming around the trim at the ends of the towels. FWIW, I use mostly Persil Power Perls. Before that I used Miele Ultra Color. I sometimes use Gain He liquid and Arm & Hammer He liquid. My wife often does loads using Miele Ultra White. I have no idea whether or not detergent can cause the holes....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
