Questions on Growing Seeds
Comments (4)On what to do with excess dl. I asked a similar question recently. One person told me about feeding extra dl to the cows (I can't even imagine!) Some have said they keep relatives & friends stocked who are not so interested in named plants and appreciate a lovely flower even if it is a "look alike" to something that is registered. Others have suggested to donate them to senior's assisted living or nursing homes and elementary school children. I'm sure there are other charities and service organizations who would appreciate the gift as an inexpensive means of beautifying their landscapes- especially of a plant that takes little maintenance. I was thinking of childcare/preschool facilities, churches, fire stations, our small post office, the local humane society, the local senior center, some organizations that work with disabled persons.... as a few places that are on really tight budgets and would appreciate the thought....See More(very very amateur) Daylily Breeding
Comments (14)Well after that last frost the other night, it seems that the daylily seed pods that I was hoping to collect some seed from, look wilted ;( But, I'm still happy because a nice generous lady sent me a SASBE of seeds, what a nice surprise when I opened up my package today! Comments (4)I think there is a website call Forestlake Gardens that sells only seeds for daylilies, ive never had the patience to try this with named cultivaters, so ive never really looked at what they have on their site. You may want to check it out, if your into starting from scratch. Sometimes they have seeds from doubles on the LA, but not always. Good luck! -Jessica...See MoreDaylily seed growing
Comments (1)najoba [nancy] had a wonderful tutorial with photos of growing daylilies from seed. You might do a search for it - or search for growing daylily seeds and that will bring up lots of information. I am not an expert by any means - but have had pretty good luck putting the potted seeds in morning light then transferring to bigger pots. If you have to grow in a basement during the winter, try searching for light setups. I am not familiar with what kinds of lights to use, but I have hung the long 2 or 4 foot long lights by small chains and they work fine. Good luck - seed growing is fun! Judith...See Morelemonthyme5
