Hi:

1. is there a way to do a search for all the posts from one person? ... or all the threads? some people here are so knowledgeable that i'd like to see more of what they wrote.

2. sometimes when I click to get back to somewhere ...for example the av forum or rose forum or something... when I click on that link .... I get routed to a facebook foodsaver page.... I can't figure out what the connection is. it happens? maybe 1/4 of the time ... and the only way to get rid of it is to close down and re start GW.

3. size of photos? is there a link that says how large photos should be? (60 kb? 200 kb?) are we limited in how many we can post inside one thread?

Ah, good questions :-)

1. you can do a search for that person's name - say i am looking for an old thread of mine where i posted photos, i would look for "froeschli"

2. the foodsaver, it has happened to me a few times, i don't know why or how it got there, (i kept thinking it was my clicking in the wrong spot for a while) but using your browser's "back" button will get you back to where you were.

3. photos, not 100% sure, but using the image upload (choose file) function, i have not run into a size limit. GW will resize the image for you. - that limits you to one photo per post, but it will stay there for good.
If you use a hosting site such as photobucket or flickr, you can probably add as many photos as you like to the same post, but they disappear after you move/delete them from flickr/photobucket. (some of the older threads had great photos, and now they are all gone. bummer.)

I presume, things like the foodsaver ad pay for the storage space & bandwith for your photos ;-p

When I first joined the Forum and asked a lot of humble, beginner questions, WhiteLacey and Irina kindly held my hand and answered every question. Another old time member, who no longer posts here, suggested reading the archived posts that can be found at the bottom of the page.
Reading those, a few at a time, provided a basic background. Joanne

Hi Susan, The GW accepts HTML codes. There are several Web sites that teach the basics. This will enable you to change font colors, bold, underline, italics and change text. Try this site: HTML for the Conceptually Challenged You could also use an HTML editor most Word Processing Programs will edit or you can download one. Then it's a matter of cutting and pasting the codes to your messages, exchange page, etc. For uploading pictures you need a software program that allows you to work with pictures. There are many free sites where you can copy gif's, animations, etc. Copy pictures to your software program. Once you do this sign up for Photobucket and upload your pictures. From there you can copy and paste them to your messages. If you need any further help email me. It took me quite some time to figure out what I was doing. Farkee, I haven't seen her post here in a very long time. I do know she posts elsewhere, or has in the past, but it's a place that I don't post at. And maybe she is posting here and I just haven't seen her posts. Does she appear in the member list? If no respnse from her here I might have her e-mail address buried somewhere, I just can't remember. Carolyn

Off topic question on bulbs

If you grow enough bulbs in pots you will find out that they situate themselves mostly to the correct water line. I.e. If you grow bulbs in a very well drained mix (like orchid bark and perlite) the bulbs will grow at the bottom of the pot; likewise, a more retentive mix will have them growing at the surface. They don't seem to mind growing longer or shorter foliage to reach the right spot above the soil. The thing that could kill them is if you plant too deep and have too wet conditions, or vice versa. In my experience, anyhow.

Karin :) ...thanks for the suggestion of your name...it forced me to copy and paste which led me to copy and paste Irinas too ... before I really couldn't find her posts because I wasn't posting Irina_co .... and she is the one who I think is most expert on hydroton and avs.

anyway .... I think some of the confusion has lifted ... :)

foodsaver ... i'm totally grateful to them for sponsoring, if they do...it must cost an unbelievable amount to keep this site running. Usually no matter how often I go back and try to use different links to get back to the forum i'm still in facebook ...so then I just close down and re open.

it is frustrating when photos disappear .... I don't think I need to use photobucket etc (here at GW)... unless the kb's of the photo are too large for the rules.... but up until now I haven't had gw deny any of my photos ... so I have no idea... I just read from one poster that the photos were supposed to be 64kb...and my minimum size is probably 200kb....

Yes, that is what the archived posts are. I should have mentioned it sooner. The oldest one is the oldest thread. They eventually disappear from the bottom of the page. However, when you type in the name of a topic on the search feature, it will pull up older threads. I find usually the least amount of words used in the search, the more older posts related to the topic can be found. And yes, you need to have the name exactly correct! Seems that there were others who were involved in that kind of planting you referred to who wrote a lot about it, not just Irina. J
