Comments (2)How about sempervirums? They can look very good together with sedums.... or as an underplanting for slim grasses. I think it sounds like you have the perfect conditions for hostas. They look very architectural, especially if you get some in blueish tones and mix with some in yellowish tones or variegated ones. -There are many kinds of hostas around, and I've never seen one that I didn't like. -They die back in the winter and comes back again relatively late in the spring. so it might be a good idea to plant some snow drops in between them for winter interest (or some other plant that wilts quite early in the season, as the hostas' leaves will soon cover whatever plants are around, once they get started). How much do you plan to water? Hostas need more water than sempervirums and most sedums....See MoreHouse plants that can handle a hot, south-facing garden window?
Comments (16)BB... Yep, please get a thermometer. It'll help. Body temps differ. For instance, my sister, Gloria is ALWAYS warm/hot, I'm the opposite, freezing. :) During winter, on holidays such as Christmas & New Year's, she runs the a/c. While cooking, she wears shorts, I'm in my coat. lol And I help prepare dinner/s. Plus bake desserts. I'm sure your garden window area gets hot, but leave the exact temp to a thermometer. Heck, they're even sold at Dollar Stores. Gasteria blooms are pretty but don't last long..Well, at least mine don't. Depends on Gasteria type. Did you know Jades bloom? Also, what is the second plant on the lower tier? Add some flowering and fragrant plants, and variegated for color. A lot can be done in your garden window. Toni...See MoreSouth facing windows
Comments (1)You have a wonderful situation. Many things will grow there, including flowering plants. Spider plant, the purple velvet plant, tradescantia, coleus, many many more. Go to a store you can buy house plants and read the tags for which plants like that situation. You'll be able to do lots with height, trailing plants, nice pots, etc. Also find a library book on house plants for ideas....See MorePlant for Eastern Facing Window Sill in NYC
Comments (1)You might try Silky Thread grass (Nassella tenuissima). It's a good size for a window, looks nice all year (it just needs gently combed or raked out in the early spring), and can look sculptural in the right context. It looks *fabulous* when the wind blows. It's recommended more for the west than the east, but since you'll be growing in pots you could probably come closer to re-creating its preferred environment. Here is a link that might be useful: Silky Thread grass...See MoreMrBlubs
