Roman mythology suggestions

My 8 year old son loves mythology and his current favorite is D'Aulaire's Greek Myths which our wonderful school librarian ordered just for him and has allowed him to check out for the past month. At some point, I know she will say it is time for the other children to have a chance at it. Since he has expressed interest in reading Roman mythology now, partly to compare/contrast, anyone have any suggestions? I never could keep all those Gods/Goddesses straight and I'm at a loss. The reading level of D'Aulaire fits him perfectly.

My kids loved the mythology books by Neil Philip especially his Illustrated Book of Myths which compares myths from Greece and Rome as well as others from around the world.

bookmom, maybe he would enjoy Roman Myths by Geraldine McCaughrean. It has some good illustrations and looks like the sort of book a bright 8 year old would cope well with.

With the ORB fixtures/shower frame, as well as the tan tile, imo, a dark color would look very rich. I can't recall reading any posts where you've used white, but have focused on more dramatic, deeper colors, so that's my logic for suggexting a darker color, unifying what you have in your home already. I have the Bamboo Romans in three of the bedrooms and family room and love them. I've had no problem with any of them in the 7 years they have been up and my son was able to hang them, which was very easy. I have unlined, but they can be custom ordered w/lining.

Maybe what you are wanting is valances ...roman shades suggests something you pull down..this can be effected easily by choosing a fabric and color you like and have rods installed and hang the valances...to get the right look and save the extra cost of roman shades..this is a custom job..in your pics the ceiling look low here..is that the case? If so adding anything here may just accentuate the low ceilings

I haven't gotten the prizes mailed yet. I came down with a "cold" and have been staying in just in case ... my COVID test kits are expired but show as negative when I take the test. However, they say not to use them if they are expired so I don't know. Hopefully I'll feel up to going out a little by tomorrow.

I would try SW Alabaster and BM White Dove as Lori suggested. You may have a cool white now which is why it doesn't look right against RC. A warmer white like the two suggested will look better. In addition, both of those are more versatile trim colors than Roman Column. Painting trim is more difficult and time consuming than painting walls (or expensive if you're paying someone to do it). When you get tired of RC and want a change you will be better off having Alabaster or WD trim so you don't have to repaint the trim also.

Mary Pope Osborne has written several books on myth retold for this age group. She's also written several of the Magic Tree House books. Some of her books on myth include: * Favorite Greek Myths * Favorite Medieval Tales (just throwing that in because it goes well with this subject) * Tales from the Odyssey (book series) Kate McMullen has a whole series out on popular myths for kids, too, but I haven't read them.

Thank you for your wonderful suggestions and I am sure one of those books will be under the tree after I hit the bookstore again... Mr Bookmom seems to think Bulfinch's Mythology is just the ticket but I think the books/authors listed above will be more suited to a "modern" boy!

However-I wouldn't entirely rule out Bulfinch someday...because it is a source that will be referenced in Lit classes all the way through his schooling. If your young reader is reading above his age-and I think he must be if he is doing D'Aulaire-I might be so bold as to suggest that you do go with an age-appropriate copy of the myths complete with great illustrations, AND if he is still interested in mythology in a few months or so-Bulfinch...explaining that it is a more "grown-up" version but that he might want to tackle some of them after he knows the basic stories. As an elementary teacher, I love to see students tackling challenging reading-it is how they not only improve their comprehension, but also how they improve their writing.
