Ring Out Wild Bells - Happy New Year

20 years ago

We will hear these bells again this New Year and once more hope that the sentiments of the second stanza will be realised:
lines written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson on hearing Waltham Abbey bells from High Beech on New Years Eve 1837:-
/Ring out wild bells, to the wild sky,
/The flying clouds, the frosty light:
/The year is dying in the night;
/Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
//Ring in the valiant man and free,
/The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
/Ring out the darkness of the land,
/Ring in the Christ that is to be.
