I just finished "Replay" by Ken Grimwood. OMG! The most amazing, incredible story I think I've ever read. And like all of you, I've read a LOT of books! LOL

So unpredictable, fascinating, rivetting.....THANK YOU to whoever recommended it on this board.

I've always thought you people who turn around and read a book again immediately were a little wierd but now I get it!

I post very very rarely on this board because I just love reading all the recommendations...

But, I know that I have recommended Replay in the past on this board because it is one of my favorite books. I reread it at least once a year. This book just really gets to me, because I've always wanted to 'relive' my life and do things differently and I always daydream about what if I could relive my life knowning about all the events in my past life...

I love this book too and am so happy to see someone else who enjoyed it as much as I do!

I just asked around a few of my sci fi/fan friends and they were surprised I hadn't read this yet. Ok, off to the used bookstore! Thanks for the rec.

Oh, yes, I re-read all the time. The ones I re-read the most are Jane Austen's novels, the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon, "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy (one of my favorite books ever), and "Far From the Madding Crowd" by Thomas Hardy. I've re-read "To Kill a Mockingbird," too, but only 3-4 times.:)

Carolyn, my favorite is Tara Road followed by The Glass Lake, though Circle of Friends seems to be the favorite of many a Binchy fan. Cindy, now that I re-read the ending so I'd be accurate in my confusion... I no longer am. I thought the "afterward" was an artifice and actually part of the novel. Upon more deliberate inspection, I see the ending of the novel is marked as such and Maupin's father calling him and asking him what Maupin's done to him in this book, etc, truly is an afterward. It's amazing to think that Maupin, along with other sophisticated-sounding folks, was caught up in a similar situation; at least according to web chatter, 20/20 ran a voiceprint on the real life "boy" and his "mom" with the results indicating the voices were the same person. As for the heartbreak, it seemed to pave the path for Noone to be so open to being duped. Same for Noone's musings about growing up being different and feeling isolated--he could identify with this boy and, I believe, really did see himself as a father figure/mentor.

Wow, a year old thread and I see a post of one of my all time fav books. Door into Summer is so excellent, in terms of Time Travel, character development, and just darn good story telling. I separate time travel from futuristic. My fav examples of the first include Time Machine, Time Ships (Stephen Baxter writes a sequel to Wells classic), Time Travelers Wife, Time and Again, and Time Enough for love (another Heinlen). Then there is a wonderful short story by Woody Allen in Without Feathers. I can't remember the name but it involves a professor who is able to travel not so much into time but into a book. Absolutely hilarious.

Isn't it a wonderful book? It won a World Fantasy Award (I think) when it came out. There were rumors of a movie that never came to pass. The closest film analogy is GROUNDHOG DAY, starring Bill Murray -- an interesting compare-and-contrast.

Oh I think I remember that rumor. I think Gwynth Paltrow was signed on to the project..

Good luck finding the book in your used bookstore! I have 3 used bookstores in my town and it is has only made an appearance once (of course, I bought it so I could pass it along to one of my friends!)

I recommend shopping on line for used books -- the selection is absolutely stupendous.

awckie, I've found the same thing. I am about to go to ABE which usually has everything I want. Alibris is another good one.
