So I've heard. It should make a good movie, though I wonder if they will maintain the narrator in the movie. The narrator, who had an interesting perspective, (Do you remember who he was?) provided some unusual insights.

I can't quite picture how they would do that in a film, except maybe if they had a character sort of like Joel Gray's emcee character in Cabaret.

I loved the book, I hope the film does it justice. In the right hands it could be excellent.

I have read a few of the reviews -- several reviewers felt the director "sanitized" the book, eliminating the grittiness that in my opinion, made the book memorable.

Maybe they wanted to make it more of a family movie that all could go to during the holiday season. I won't be seeing this one at the theatre.

I will go to the movie despite the lukewarm reviews. I certainly hope it hasn't been sanitized to appeal to the "family" as it would certainly lose a great deal of credibility. However, I would hope that it would appeal to a wide audience and be a success.

It is one of the most moving, emotional reads I can remember. In seeing the pictures and trailers for the movie, I was disturbed at the beauty of the young girl who plays Liesel. At no time did I imagine her being beautiful with carefully curled hair. It just doesn't seem suitable for the times and for this particular story.

The sugar coating of historical atrocities is typical of Hollywood films, and unfortunately âÂÂThe Book Thiefâ suffers from this morally dubious denial of truth.
There is nothing wrong with a movie uplifting us as an audience, but to treat us as fools by softening harsh realities achieves nothing positive. While finely acted and uniquely told, âÂÂThe Book Thiefâ eventually suffers from its fluffy treatment of history."
