Happy Thanksgiving To All From the U.S. RPers

I believe I can speak for all RPers here in the U.S. and wish everyone a lovely day wherever you are - you don't have to eat heaping plates of food to take a moment to think of what you have to gives thanks for - books, friends, family, and all the rest. Happy Thanksgiving!

And from this side of the Pond too. We, in England, are not good at counting our blessings and the new Govt is being mocked because they are planning to undertake a study to find out how HAPPY we all are. But when one looks at the various horrors and tragedies that fill our TV screens all of us must have many simple things for which we can be thankful.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays over here - a day to be grateful without the pressure of presents and all that expectation.. Like most of you, I am grateful for good eyesight, lots of books, all my friends at RP, and all the other good stuff that usually just gets forgotten.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I'm also glad to be enjoying Thanksgiving virtually with all of you. Max went to our DIL's parents home, two hours away, bearing cranberry relish, cranberries baked with port, the best roast veggies we've ever made (loads of fennel, red onion, Brussels sprouts and carrots dressed with olive oil, dijon, balsamic vinegar, a little honey and some herbs)and two bottles of wine. Max did a most of the work, I washed my hands a lot and tried to help. I'm at home coughing and sneezing uncontrollably - really rotten timing - but I'm glad he went. He'll come home with turkey and sides for me for tomorrow and we have a four day weekend. Then only four more workdays and he retires, we are both happy about that. I'm whipping up a dinner for 30 of my closest family members, LOL. We're doing the standard Thanksgiving fare plus some non-traditional family favourites. I've (with a surprising amount of help from my children) already made three pumpkin pies, scalloped carrots, sweet potato casserole and the stuffing, plus peeled the potatoes. Assorted family members are bringing rice rolls, perogies, taco salad, a ham, buns and pickles. I'm sure we'll have plenty of food. I love filling my home with my family! Happy Thanksgiving! Carrie

I actually celebrated Thanksgiving with my family, mainly to show our grandchildren all the paper turkeys, pilgrims and pumpkins we brought back from our American half-year when their parents were small. It also gave me an opportunity to give my daughter the pumpkin pie she loves since her only American Thanksgiving. We were thankful, too, because she has had two job offers after being out of work for six months.
