My daughter really liked "When Sophie gets angry really, really angry". The storyline was a little wierd but the colors and illustrations were bold and she wanted me to read it over, and over, and over,... I also recommend Jan Brett's books. Her illustrations are beautiful and she provides little windows on each page previewing what's coming on the next page. Sarah Kate always loved to tell me what was going to be next. Now she is 8 and an avid reader. I'll look to see if I can find the "sophie" book. I may have others. Nik

Nope. Haven't read it. Never heard of it until you asked and piqued my curiosity and forced me to do a google search. It only recently came out, so it is unlikely you would find it at paperback swap (love paperback swap) just yet. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for it.

I agree with Jan-the quality of the adaptation is critical. As is, or course, the original book-they are filming Little Children, but the book was so awful I can't imagine wasting time watching it all over again! Little Women with Winona Ryder was well-done In Her Shoes was charming, though I found the book a little cloying Pride and Prejudice has been done twice recently-the 6 hour BBC version is the best, the newer 2 hour theatrical version is good as well. On the other hand, Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma took too many liberites.

If you are looking for books that discuss the origins of the naming of roses, you might consider these. A Rose by Any Name: The Little-Known and Deep-Rooted History of Rose Names by Douglas Brenner and Stephen Scanniello Women in my Rose Garden: The History, Romance, and Adventure of Old Roses by Ann Chapman and Paul Starosta Pink Ladies and Crimson Gents: Portraits and Legends of 50 Roses by Molly and Don Glentzer Naming the Rose: Discovering Who Roses Are Named For by Roger Mann The Women Behind the Roses: An Introduction to Alister Clark's Women Rose-Namesakes by Tilley and Andrew Govanstone All of these books discuss the people for whom roses are named. The first three can be purchased from Amazon. The fourth one can as well, but it has become incredibly expensive. The fifth one is not sold in the US, but can be ordered from Amazon UK. I bought my copy from the authors when they were doing a book tour in the United States. Two of the authors have some affiliation with the Antique Roses Forum. Back in the early days (1990's) Roger Mann was a frequent poster here. And Steven Scanniello shows up from time to time, not as much as he once did. Rosefolly
