For admirers of this author, a film is coming out in the near future of his "Atonement." I saw the previews and it looked intriguing....I recall some of us discussed the novel here a RP some time ago.
I read that it was being made into a film, but I didn't know when it was being released. Atonement was the first McEwan novel I read, so I've been looking forward to seeing the film.
An English friend who has seen the film tells me that it should be right up my alley, I guess based on that I like "The Cement Garden" and "The Comfort of Strangers." I actually like those film adaptations better than McEwan's books, though book and film in each case are just about equally unsettling IMO. I've run across few moviewatchers who like the films as much as I do, though.
I still haven't got around to reading Atonement. Do you think I should before I see the film?
Frieda, I am hesitant to see it because its one of those books that became a favorite, even tho it took me a bit to get into. I would read it first. I am really afraid they are going to take so much away from the story, or change the ending like they did in Painted Veil (tho I grant you, that ending did work). But thats just my take. I'm going to wait till I get some positive feedback on it from other readers.
