I got here from the cooking forum, thanks to netla. And I got to the cooking forum from the kitchen forum where I hung out for a year while remodeling my kitchen. (I learned so much.) And I got to the Garden Web kitchen forum from Chowhound when I asked for info about a Canadian stove I was interested in.

I've never been on another reader's forum and would like to know about others. I do think the Garden Web format is better than most of the other cooking, food and home improvement ones I've looked at. Maybe that's why they are so useful and filled with interesting people!

I found Salon Table Talk book discussions about six years ago, and from there went to Readerville. I am still there, but am finding this place much more to my liking for several reasons. I also like going to Constant Reader, but its not quite as active as this one.

I have several here within the Garden Web community that I visit regularly. I ask questions on the Gardening Forums, since I know little about gardening and I try, and since I think I know everything about everything else, I give advice on the others. LOL

Some of the Forums have a conversations area that have a lot of interesting people and jokes. The Computer Forum has a long running joke posting.

I participate in a couple of other forums on Delphi-I am a paying member of Delphi, but you don't have to be to join.
Since my favorite genre is Mystery & Thrillers-I participate in one there called just that where we discuss our favorite authors & upcoming books-and-we have had authors join in.
There is another one at Delphi called Booklovers which is general reading, no particular genre-all are welcome! Both of these forums have good participation and people from other countries.

Delphi forums have a moderator or host that run things, but they are easy to read and follow. Currently Booklovers has a "Real Book Box" going around, the moderator got a list of people wanting to participate and so she started by putting 8 books in a box and sending them (media mail) to the first person on the list, that person takes out as many books as she wants, or all of them, mails off 8 books to the next person on the list and so on. Eventually the moderator that started the Book Box will get it back with 8 completely different books.
The idea is not to get rid of books you didn't enjoy, but to send on books that you DID enjoy.

The box is on its way to me now...I have no idea what is in it, and look forward to finding out!

I got through but couldn't find the mysteries and thrillers. What am I missing?

I'm a forum slut... on the garden web I also visit the Circle Theatre (cinema), the Music Room and the UK Gardening Forum. I've just abandoned the Quatre Gats (Art) in favour of a more active artists' forum, with less waffle and more technical/practical advice. RP is the only reading forum for me, but I also frequent a writers' forum, a women's forum, a pond forum and a greyhound forum. Oh, and occasionally I pop in to the forum for my former high school, but so far I'm the only active visitor there!

I was in the Arizona Gardening thread here but I realized that I wasn't quite as passionate about the subject then they were (but I still pop in to ask questions).

I would LOVE a special education teacher site. Not one where we can complain about the system, but one where I can get ideas and get feedback on issues. I have a few preschool ed sites that I use for ideas, but often talking with a sped teacher is very helpful. Anyone know of one?

I'm on several multiple sclerosis forums, and I have a multiple sclerosis message board of my own too.

I'm also on a splinter-group forum that broke off from an online book discussion group. And on a cat-problem forum (people post messages about problems their cats are having, and the rest of us try to reply).

cindydavid- I would also like a sp.ed. forum. I took an online course thru the University of Pheonix. It was helpful to find out that teachers around the country were dealing with the same issues, and to talk about ways to deal with them. Unfortunately, I don't have a colleague here that I can problem solve with. I wonder-how do you start a forum?

Not sure - I certainly don't have the computer savvy to do it. I was hoping professional organizations like CEC or NICHCY would have something like it, but they don't. And I have colleagues at my grade level, unfortunately we are all scattered at different schools and see each other once a month. So....There must be something. I know there's a need for it!

I frequent a French book club where I am quite active, redflagdeals.com (a Canadian deals site), The Fashion Spot (for fashion), E-gullet (food). I'm only really active on my book forums, the others I mostly browse for information.

I hang out on a couple of the forums over at delphi. But I think I will be moving on from one of them. It seems that many forums have a certain life expectancy, and then the tenor changes, as the group of people who were there when you found it have begun to move on, and the new crowd is just a little different...

Cindydavid and others interested--I found a forum on Yahoo called Special_Educators. The focus does seem to be on ideas and feedback and there were several posters in my area of multiple disabilities, as well as other areas.

Pat, I don't know if you received my reply to your e-mail. I'm not too confident of messages sent through our "Pages" on this forum.

I tried Delphi again and got the Mystery & Thrillers section without any problem. Don't know what happened the first time.
