Sunday Times/Faber lit quiz

Here's a link to the quiz. You can win a library of Faber and Faber books. Deadline is Sept. 28. Unfortunately, they will only deliver the prize to a UK address, but its fun to try and answer the questions anyway.

I am pitiful. I think I knew 3 of the answers with about 3 more that I knew from somewhere other than books, so either I have the wrong answer or am totally confused. I'm going with the latter.

merry, if I got half a dozen correct I shall be surprised! I obviously don't read enough literature and/or remember what I have read.
Do you suppose all the works had been published by Faber?
I wonder if they will post up the answers?

Veer, what a relief. If you had a hard time with it, I don't feel so bad.

One of the novels I was sure about was published by Vintage in the UK.

Can't all be published by Faber. Some are literally ages old.

I got very few. Maybe, if we all pooled our knowledge, we might share the prizes.....?

Vee, if you read this, I'm still having trouble with my e-mails! Things come in 4 days old, and it's playing havoc with my life and work.

Actually, I quite like the idea of pooling the knowledge. I think it would be fun to try to at least get all the answers.

Whether we then enter I'm not so sure about...but I could probably be persuaded. I haven't read the t's and c's but I doubt if it says that you can't get help.

Of course, the answers would be here up on the internet for anyone else to copy, were they to wish...not sure about that...

if anyone can help with births 1 and 3 and marriages 4, i wouldbe more than happy to do a tit for tat help to them. How does that sound. I hope fair.

I only could get 2 out of the whole lot, alas.

Bambam, sorry, but seeing as how you only registered today and the first thing you post is asking for help winning a contest, I find myself resentful. I can help myself, I'm sending very bad thoughts your way. Do let us know if you win in spite of my curses. I need some evidence to prove I'm not the witch some say.

I've saved all the questions and thought I'd post them for us all to answer after the contest was over. I think its great if you want to help each other out, but it might be best to do it by email rather than on the board.

    Have fun and good luck.

    Dear Chris in the valley
I am sorry you feel so offended and want to send bad thoughts to an old lady who was offering help to any one who needed it on a one for one basis. I have no intention of taking without giving. I wish you well with your unhappy thoughts. I won't win, of course as I can't do all the questions but I have many answers as I have done lots of reading. I would have thought I might be of help to someone else struggling. No offence meant to anyone.

bambam, if you have only three answers left to do I am most envious. My only excuse is that I read very few novels.
I have been looking at the photo questions and NO 5 is worrying because what I think should be the answer doesn't fit!

sorry currently away from home but 5 is brian maclafferty
6 is John sutherland. Anyone prepared to help me with the three I cannot do which are births 1 and 3 and marriages 4

Considering I was confusing Faber with James Thurber and then not knowing if Faber was a who or a what, I doubt I could help anyone. With confidence, I can say I know all of two answers.

bookmom, Faber and Faber are a well thought of London publishing house, mostly of literary and poetic works.

bambam, I can find no reference to 'Brian Maclafferty' even with variations of spelling; and sorry I don't know the answers to the Q's you mentioned.
