Being a native plant enthusiast, and never having heard of 'Beak Grass', I had to go look it up! There is not a lot of info out there and apparently it is fairly rare. The references I looked at don't even mention whether it's a cool or warm season grass (flowering time in late summer so maybe warm season??). It has interesting seedheads and turkeys eat the seeds. Neat. You could try soaking or scarifying the seed first, and this might reduce the length of cold stratification required. Then in your climate, I would think you could stratify outside with WSing. After that, bring them in and try to germinate under lights for April. Since there isn't much propagation info out there, you could also experiment and try a germination test right now, and see if you would get any sprouting without cold stratification. The warm season native grasses that I've grown from seed haven't required a cold period.

Yes, plant peas. So much fun to train up some bamboo or branch tee pees. I also plant Asian snow peas. Sweet pea flowers. Asian veggies. The cooler weather will keep your lettuces, brocoli, etc. from bolting. Get your onions in now, but you won't be able to harvest until next year (except for green/scallion types). Peas from seed are super easy. I soak overnight in warm water and get them going in recycled six-pack trays. You may need bottom heat or warm place if it's pretty cool already. We're in 70s-80s day and 50s-60s evening so I can still get some going from seed. Susan

it it is designed to be paneled, panel it. If it's designed to be built-in, build it in. SubZeros, paneled and built-in, have been notorious for their longevity. There may be differences with the newer ones, but historically they've been good for at least 20-25 years. So I don't think it's the built-in-ness or the wood that makes the difference. Rather, it's good design and overall quality.

I did this with our JCP basswood blinds. It is very easy to do, but you just have to be careful. Pull out the "plugs" from the bottom rail and cut the bottom knot on the lift cords. Then pull out the lift cords to the area where you want to remove the slats. You can next pull out the slats horizonally through the lattices. When you have the length you want, put in the bottom piece and then carefully thread the lift cords through the slats and end piece and the plugs. Sometimes if the cords fray, some clear nail polish will work to prevent this. Cut the lattices only when you are sure you have the length you want, knot the lift cord over and stuff the lattice ends in the hole, and plug them. I will be doing this tomorrow as enormous kitty will occasionally break ours going after outdoor cats who come to our window. I just do this and replace the broken slats as needed. Keep the extras just in case!
