I'm bagging here in suburban Maryland, just outside Washington DC. I'm following Jellyman's suggestions: sandwich bags on apples and footies on nectarines. Plums and sour cherries must fend for themselves. I got a couple of sprays of Imidan on the nectarines and seemed to have avoided much curculio damage. I only sprayed the apples once, and then thinned them hard and bagged while they were relatively small. I'm experimenting, so perhaps next time I will spray twice and bag when they are bigger. I also only sprayed my Stanley plums once. It's been pretty windy here this spring and lots of heavy rain, but the bags on both apples and nectarines have held on well. My apples are only starting to fruit this year, so I've only a few dozen apples; wish I had 300! I've rather more nectarines. Last year I managed to bag nectarines with footies, and they all grew and ripened well, but the early frost meant they were few in number. This year has so far been great, and I should get a pretty decent crop of nectarines. What I've noticed so far is that the curculio seem to clearly prefer apples and nectarines to the Stanley plum. I hope oriental fruit moth don't like plums. I know I'll have to prune off the damage to the end of branches they cause on the nectarine, which is one reason I don't prune it too hard earlier in the spring. I never got this kind of damage on the plum in the past, so perhaps I won't have problems with fruit moth and plums. We'll see.

I purchased a book called Sew And Go baby. It has the bib pattern you are wanting.. I will write down the instructions for you.. Materials needed - Fingertip or hand towel Neck Ribbing - 3 1/2 X 14 inches A 5 1/2 inch circle cut out of cardboard. I then cut it in half 1. With the towel facing right side down, fold the upper edge down 4 inches. Find the center of the fold and mark with a pin. 2. Place the half-circle cut out of cardboard on the fold and center. Cut away circle. 3. Next, stitch the ribbing to make a circle. Fold in half with sides together and mark in quarters using the seam as one mark. I then marked my towel opening at the quarters, too. 4. Sew the ribbing to neck opening with seam at the center back. Match the ribbing at the quarter marks. Stretch as you sew. These are so quick and easy to make. I often have extras made up to give as a small gift or tuck in as a small extra... Have fun.. any questions, just e-mail me..

Carrie-I have not used the rocks for plant markers but have painted many in the past.I used the craft acrylics by Plaid,but any acrylic paint will work.You could also use the Patio Paint.I think you could also use the rub-on transfers if the rocks are fairly smooth.You can write and draw on the rocks with permanent markers or paint markers.Whichever you do seal the rocks well with 2 or 3 coats of acrylic sealer.You might want to re-seal them occasionally.Have fun!! Since this thread has popped back up I should say that DA did replace the damaged roses and the replacements are awesome. I haven't seen any of the DA body bag type roses at our Whole Foods lately or anywhere else. If I saw some I would probably get some even though I definitely don't need anymore DA roses this year lol. I went ahead and ordered Lady of Shallot from DA because I really wanted that one and hadn't found it elsewhere grafted.
