Oh, I do hope she writes more in Potterville. The ending does leave it so open for the next generation of books.
Although the economic motivator doesn't exist anymore I'm hoping the artistic one will take over.

I was sad when the books ended by have never been much of a fan of the movies although I have certainly tried to like them. It just wildly annoys me when they leave stuff out or change things!
The sets though, help decorate my mind with better images than I can imagine. I was watching a piece of Order of the Phoenix the other day and the Blacks family tree was exceptionally beautiful.

I was also at the midnight showing last night with my DD and her friends (they dressed up as Bellatrix, Luna and Narcissa; I went as the Muggle Mom Who Drove). It was a terrific movie, not without a few flaws, but overall I loved it, and the excitement and energy of the people in line and in the theater was so much fun to experience.

And I freely admit to crying like a baby throughout the Forbidden Forest scene and during the epilogue.

Watching these movies has been a bit like watching your own children grow up -- remember how little the actors were in the first movie? My kids have grown up with Harry, Ron and Hermione.

We did used to have a ton of Potterites here -- they nearly took over RP. I remember having a very long difference of opinion with a young lady who insisted that Harry could only ever love Cho Chang while I championed Ginny. They all seemed to vanish before the last book, I wonder what happened to them?

Between the books and the movies, it's been quite a ride!

I remember some of those and the Cho lovers (shippers!) were all over different websites. Very few could see Ginny as the one. That must be age, I thought Ginny was obviously the one.

I do remember those days. People were wildly passionate for or against Harry Potter, here on the forum and elsewhere. Exciting times.

I'm glad to hear that the movie was good.

I, too, did the midnight show. We even had a couple of dementors in costume. The muggle moms sitting in front and behind us were avid readers who overheard Sister talk about how "not right" it felt to actually hold a book while waiting for her replacement Kindle. A Nook vs Kindle debate ensued followed by book talk until the movie began.

Watching Voldemort's demise in 3D was spectacular.

Thank goodness kids have facebook to share their enthusiasms these days.

I was there on Sunday morning. Just boring old 2D.

I liked the film, but I thought that the final scene with Voldy and Harry was far better in the book - in the great hall, pacing around in a circle, with everyone watching them, as the sun rises...

Did they really have to blow Vodly and Bellatrix into bits just so it looks good in 3D?

But what an amazing series of films. The way we've actually grown up with them all is quite something. As the guy in the Guardian says - it makes you realize how short a time childhood really is.

By the way - I just found the discussion we had about HP6. I'm quite impressed by some of the predictions...!

I saw it in 3d today and was so disappointed in the 3d.
I have only seen 2 3d films before and those were the "made for Imax' short films, one, Under the Sea, and those were so spectacular I was awed. It was like being in a coral reef.

The HP 3d made me think of a pop up book, very little left the screen and came into the audience in a 3d way.

But the content! The visuals were spectacular giving me far grander imagery than I had from my own mind. The gringotts vaults, the shell cottage, voldy under the bench, the room of requirements...

But all my favorite bits that I would reread over an over
were left out or mangled or changed to something else entirely. I expected that which is why I find the movies so frustrating but overall, I enjoyed it.

Thanks for the link to the 2005 discussion, Martin. I got a bit of nostalgia seeing all those names of members no longer posting. Of course we do have new ones.
