I got to meet Gail Tsukiyama today!

I went to a book signing today at our local used book store -- The Almost Perfect Bookstore (and it is). Two authors were there: Lisa See (Snow Flower and the Secret Fan) and Gail Tsukiyama (Women of the Silk; The Samurai's Garden; and my favorite Language of the Threads. I absolutely love Tsukiyama's writing, and it was fun to chat with her briefly. I told her I had read all of her books except the bright red one she had sitting in front of her. She said that was because it was a new one that wasn't coming out until this fall(?). I looked down and noticed there was a blurb on the front of the new book by none other than Karen Joy Fowler who wrote -- wait for it -- Sarah Canary!!! I told GT that Fowler was my second favorite author :), and that SC was my favorite book. She said she is good friends with Fowler and would pass that on.

For those of you who have read SC, I asked if she thought Sarah was an alien. She laughed and said she didn't read Sci-Fi, and wondered what Fowler was thinking when she wrote it. She then mentioned Fowler's comment that she had patterned it after The Wizard of Oz. We both agreed we didn't really see that in it too much.

Anyway, that's my author story. I'd much rather meet and author than a celebrity any day.
