I tried to respond to this earlier, but my computer wouldn't let me for some reason. Anyway, I'm an Erdrich fan. I've read several of her books, including The Master Butchers ... I liked that, although it wasn't my favorite. Her stories are somewhat dark, but she creates interesting characters. I liked one about The Beet Queen or The Bingo Palace, I can't remember the exact title now.
You'll probably also learn about her marriage to Michael Dorris. He wrote "Yellow Raft in Blue Water," -- one of my favorite books. He came to a sad end.
