Unless of course it is a low grafted weeping variety, like many of the dissectums - these never tend to grow very high due to their weeping habit. But they can grow quite wide. There are some true dwarfs as well but you should be aware that in time, even many of the true dwarf selections can exceed published size guidelines. I'd not like to consider pruning a JM to maintain shorter than natural height. The result is not something that is typically very attractive and it can impact the health of the tree. The only way it might survive is if you give it protection wiht a heat source. Being just planted, it has not had any time at all to get itself established. It's roots are too close to the top of the soil at this point and they would freeze and kill the tree, protected or not (if without heat that is). If it would pull through with just cold protection, you can be sure that it would lose all its fronds... then it will take all next summer to recover to something that looks somewhat normal. But here's another option. Since it's only 4' tall and I assume you mean the entire plant, not the trunk, you could tie up the fronds a bit so that they are not sticking way out and then being smaller, store in house for the winter, somewhere bright. Don't forget to water it though.. LOL I stored 6 in the house a couple of winters ago and 3 of them got into the back of all the other plants and didn't get watered. Lost all 3! The other 3 are doing fine and will be protected this winter. Hope that helps.

Patriciae, I can speak only for myself, but to me there's a big difference between her early books and the later ones. This is evident just from reading synopses. I enjoy the later ones--say, 2010 and beyond, although there may be some written a little earlier that I'd like. The later ones are longer and more complex than the earlier ones. (I'm talking about her romantic suspense novels, not the "In Death" series--I love all of those.) I've been impressed with her research. The Search is a good example. It has a lot of information about Canine Search & Rescue. She clearly loves dogs, and I can relate. Her trilogies are popular, but they'r not my thing. I read one and it was pleasant, but I can take just so much "magick." :-)
