Weird? What's weird about them? (Hanging head in shame) I actually own two of them - the above mentioned Le Petomane book and Why Cats Paint. And yes, they are weird, very weird!

Speaking of wierd, I just finished a very peculiar mind-bending graphic novel called "The Man who Grew Young" by Daniel Quinn and illustrated by Tim Eldred.

The book opens with a funeral but instead of the body being buried, it is a ceremony to dig up the body and start the life of this person. You watch this person recover from their illness that killed them, have careers, get unmarried, meet their lover for the first time, turn into children, and reunite with their mothers until they are nothing but cells. This happens to everyone except this one bloke who is not affected by it.

It's a very interesting concept and kept me thinking about it for some time afterwards....

I saw humorist/author David Sedaris speak a couple years ago and during the evening he dedicated some time to talking about The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. He managed to make a funny book, even funnier with his ponderings.

Lemonhead, that sounds fascinating but when I looked back at your post it hadn't registered that it is a graphic novel and I...well...I just can't!

Honestly, this book reads like a real book, except it's in pictures. Graphic novels aren't *that* bad, are they?? :-)

Lemonhead, a similar but much earlier book is "Counter Clock World" by James Blish, which is based on the same concept although different in plot. I'm not sure whether this is currently in print but James Blish is undergoing a revival now and it should be easy to find a used copy on the internet.

I found The Man Who Grew Young at the library and read it in one sitting (it isn't very long). Lots of food for thought there! Honestly, I think the graphic novel is the best way to tell this story.

James Blish (who, however, is an author worthy of note).I must have been asleep at the switch when I mixed them up. Sorry!

Before I saw the list, I was going to say Lewis Carroll's "Alice"s Adventures in Wonderland" was the wierdest book I had ever read. But even that one does not begin to compare with the books on the list. Thank-you for the list, martin z.

David Sedaris is one of the best -- if not THE best -- humour writers around, today, I think. Have you seen his new book? Just came out last week or so. It's small like a children's book, and has a goofy picture of a squirrel on the cover, just like a kid's book. He tells the oddest stories about his life, and there are such weird people in them !! I plan on buying it soon!

My wierdest read has been "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind.

I've just noticed I spelt "weird" wrong on the original post....

Still, looking back over the posts, I'm not alone...though I'm impressed that a majority of posters got it right!

I just thought maybe that was the British spelling of the word. :) JK

My Oxford The Australian Dictionary spells it as weird. that blows the "i before e except after c"this of course is one of the exceptions!!!

Is it possible to alter a heading? There have been a few typos etc. :-)
