Hoosier, amending a soils pH is an integral part of fruit tree management and either lime or sulfur are amendments endorsed by most current recs to be incorporated during the planting because it insures nutrients such as calcium (in originally acid soils) or iron will be available in deeper soil when the top layer dries out during periods of drought. It is incorporation of organic matter into small planting holes and adding N. at the time of installation that is not generally recommended. It actually calls for the addition of organic matter as well, but only on the surface layer and extending well beyond the root ball. Rweisman, as far as the pH issue is concenrned, I too would like to know how you took the readings and with what equipment. In the future you can use your cooperative extension for specific guidelines on preparing your soil and avoid this anxiety.

ok this is what I have determined so far, there are a lot of us trying to figure out how to get and use these books on our readers LOL It may not be possible because this site is changing them to a .umf file format not epub, therefore it would take a .umf converter to change them to epub or a umf reader which is what that media manager thing is. I tried searching for a .umf converter and nothing is coming up that looks trustworthy. I had hoped that it was one of the formats that calibre would use but it is not. so at this point I think we may have to just stick to reading them online free which is better than nothing. I do not like the media manager program since it did trigger a response from your AV and I know nothing about that program so I think it best not to be messing with it. Also when I was doing a google search for umf converter, of course I was doing this with linux, I did end up on one of those sites that tries to install one of the nasty rogue programs so if you try doing that kind of search be really careful. It did nothing to me on linux but had I been on windows that may have been dangerous. Don't forget that anytime you download anything file or program before you open it right click on it and scan it with your AV and malwarebytes just to be sure they are clean. One day during history class, I was called to the principal's office afraid of why I was being summoned, as that usually meant you were in trouble. I was a good kid and could not think of what I might have done wrong. Well, the principal had an envelope for me. Cash. I believe my family was spared a winter of misery when our school's Home & Health Committee gave me the modern equivalent of $240 for Christmas, supposedly to buy presents for our large family. I gave it to my mother, knowing we had nothing to buy fuel with. In fact we already owed for it. I did have a coat, but it was cold in my house even with the fuel purchase. I slept with my coat. But I was okay since it was far from freezing in the house after that present. Another child also had gotten money from the Committee. She was so happy and uninhibited that she told everyone. She was poorer than me and came a long way to get to school. She lived in a two room house with tar-paper on the roof and outer walls to keep out the rain. Yes, she was definitely a Bobby Decker, too. Some students were disgusted with her, fuming "Why did she get money? It isn't fair." And these were teenagers who should have understood. So I did not dare mention to anyone that my family had been given money. One of the kids I most respected had protested the loudest at this Christmas present. I learned that all her adult life she was involved with charities to make sure kids would get toys or other pleasantries for Christmas. Even if she was involved with a charity with another purpose, she would convince them to graft on the service of Santa toys. She was like her own little Toys for Tots force!...She had been a Bobby Decker herself.

We do our woods out in many, many lights (for our annual party)...mostly strings of LEDs, but spotlights and lanterns...but my boys run them all from a generator and a control board. We also have a huge rig (soundsystem) but there is no access to electricity in the woods.The whole thing takes about a week to set up (not just the lights) but there is no denying the loveliness of fairylights in trees (at least to my mind). We do a candle path as well - which really is a bit of a task since it means filling brown paper bags with sand (only a cup or so to anchor the bag and tealights) and lighting 200 tealights each evening (for 3 nights), which run along the main ride into the clearing. Looks much nicer than it sounds (I was sceptical when daughter first put the idea forward). Shamefully, I fail to take photos (too mashed, wrecked, harried and knackered), although the offspring plaster it all over FB...but this year, I swear, I will take loads. Solar, at least the little panels you get on garden lights, are not terribly effective in a wood (which is why we still have not got around to fitting solar panels to the horsebox).
