BahamaDan, Though the question was asked to Captaininsano, I am replying you as my bbs also suffered Texas' triple digit mercury readings for days and plants were like in an oven. I wrapped my black nursery pot with aluminum foil and it helped a little as the sunlight was reflected by foil and black plastic could not absorb the heat as much. Then thinking about protecting the root from freezing in winter I came up with an idea to wrap the nursery pot first with packaging bubble wrap and then with foil on the outer side. The bubble wrap created a nice insulator and prevented the heat (and that is going to prevent the cold in winter as well) and foil reflected the sunlight, a perfect match! Some remaining pots, I simply painted the outside with "Exterior Flat White Latex-Base Paint and Primer in One" and that was also great as the white color reflected the sunlight and did not absorb heat!! I have posted the picture of foil+bubble wrapped and white painted pots side by side. Don't judge them by the growth of bb plants as the plants are of different cultivars with different growth habit and are of different age :-)

I was wondering if defoliating blueberries would help with some of the plants I have in the higher chill range for my area. I live in Peoria, AZ., none of my blueberries dropped foliage last year, they still produced because they are 100 to 250 chill range, the oneal, primadonna, and legacy I have produced but had small crops ( I know legacy is to much chill for my area, but it is the first plant I bought 4 years ago, and still going). Average chill for my area is supposed to be 250 to 400, but it has been in the 250 range the last 3 years. Does the remaining foliage make any difference in chill accumulation, possibly during the day when temps can reach above 70 during winter? I will place them in a shady area this winter to possible gain a few more chill hours per day. Will it help or am I just going to get small crops off of these plants

I don't think it's leaf miner. Looks more a webworm/caterpillar. At any rate it's not serious now. If you find them early enough squish them or spray BT.

as a newb.. let me be very clear ... you are starting with one of the hardest plants to grow.. not only in a pot.. but double so in an unfavorable ground soil .. and that is why they are so rare.. and so expensive.. because it aint easy .... if you fail ... do NOT stop gardening... just grow everything in the world you can.. until you are an expert .... AND THEN TRY BLUEBERRIES AGAIN ... like probably every one of the peeps here who are trying to help you .. they didnt start with BBS and dont bother with anything else .. in ground.. that requires scientific soil amending ... i played around with that kind of stuff for a few years.. and then decided life was too short to deal with such.. and it wasted money i could spend on more plants ... focus.. lol..more plants.. not harder ones ... its like you wanted to learn to play the clarinet.. so you joined a symphony.. to learn ... yikes.. lol ... if it dies.. so be it.. and dont try in pots again.. until you can grow 100 other plants in pots .. so you are a pot expert.. then try BBs again ... ken ps: a lot of peeps do not like MG potting soil ... you can do much better ... try this stuff https://www.lowes.com/pd/PRO-MIX-2-2-cu-ft-Potting-Soil-Mix/1000462547 and get a garbage can big enough for the whole bale .. and with a lid on it.. dry.. it will last you 10 years ... and when you finish that bale.. try BBs again ... and we can discuss how to amend it for pH when the time comes ...
