tall, late flowering perennials

Can anyone suggest some tall(5ft+) late flowering perennials for the back of a border. They need to be tough as the site is quite exposed. At the moment the only thing that is flourishing is Helianthus Lemon Queen. The strip is about 4ft wide and is a sort of no-man's land between my flower border and my father-in-law's veg patch so I don't want to include shrubs or anything too precious in case it gets rotovated or sprayed off !

How about Rudbeckias? Five foot is about the top size but certainly three to four foot is easy enough.

How about Summersweet (Clethra Alnifolia)? I bought one years ago after smelling it from across the nursery aisle. I didn't have a place for it, but it's fragrance, pink flower spikes (a white form is available too), and lovely foliage made me take one home anyway. I still didn't haven't an in ground place for it, so after keeping it in a pot for a couple of years I sadly passed it on to a friend who loves it to this day. Takes shade, moist soil, no pests or diseases and did I mention fragrant (and when little else is-summer). What's not to like?

What about the traditional Michalmas Daisy? Mine are nearly five feet high. They would need to be supported, but then - I suppose - so would most other tall perennials in an exposed border.

Dahlias. I grow 'David Howard', which is 5-6ft high now and smothered with orange flowers. If deadheaded regularly, the show will go on until the first frost. It also has nice dark bronze foliage. Will need some staking!
Verbena bonariensis is still going strong too... And I have a super Macleya (7ft+) The flowers are not particularly showy but it has lovely glaucous leaves.
