but I really think I saw some light yellow ones blooming the other day in front of a house. they were smaller and looked like the double ones that bloom here in the spring. Could you maybe get a pic or ask the neighbor what they are? I did a search for thos fall blooming daffodils, could not find any offered for sale in the US. All the sites offering them were in the UK. If anybody knows of any, it would be helpful to post it. Ok, I found an article covering several of them. In the spring, while the bulb foliage is still up, plant your small sized annuals in the spaces between the clumps of foliage. As the bulb foliage turns brown, then and only then, cut it to the ground. As the annuals grow, they will spread out and cover the area. Almost any kind of annual you like will suffice, but if you want low spreaders, you can't go wrong with the folowing, some of which are actually perennials, but would be treated as annuals in your area: lantana (you only need one plant every three feet, that's how far it spreads), verbena, petunias, sweet potato vines (they spread even more than lantana). I assumed that you meant summer flowering annuals. If you want annuals that will also grow and bloom in the spring, say, petunias, larkspur, dianthus, etc. put something small and inconspicuous in the ground to mark the spots where you want to plant the annuals at the same time you plant your bulbs. In my climate, I must refrigerate tulips for 8 weeks before planting, so I use 4-6 inch lengths of vinyl window blinds to mark where I will plant my tulips in late December or January. I simply dig the hole where my marker is, and that way, I won't disturb the perennials that are also planted in the area.

Hi neighbor! I'm in Oak Hill/Crieve Hall. I'm not familiar with Angolina but Annual Vinca and Lantana will bloom until frost. If your plants look leggy, cut them back and fertilize them. Perennial salvia is another one that blooms all season as long as you keep it cut back. You can't lose scattering some seeds. Have you thought of plain old fashioned zinnias. If you plant seeds right now you'll have a good crop by mid September and they will bloom until frost. The same goes for Cosmos. They don't drink a lot of water and they are showy and colorful. Too late for this fall, but if you can get some Cockscomb seeds and scatter them this fall you'll have a beautiful display next year. Their dark read foliage looks great with blackeyed Susan, orange cosmos and purple salvia and boring old mums. Another one to consider for next year is Pineapple Sage. It's a tender perennial herb so it may or may not come back. Plant it in the spring for a big and bushy plant with bright red tube like flowers that hummingbirds love. For foliage there are many beautiful varieties of Canna that make great background plants with their big colorful leaves. Castor bean plants are also big and beautiful. Consider black seeded simpson lettuce. It's the prettiest shade of lime green, it tastes great and it will go until a really hard freeze. Swiss Chard 'bright lights' is also beautiful and edible. Both will need water while it's hot. Everything I've suggested here is low maintenance and simple to grow in this area. Have fun!

I think these might be elephant garlic! I just went out to my garden and weeded my own garlic, and was surprised at how different the elephant garlic looks from regular garlic.
