getting rid of Hops

The back end of my new allotment is dominated by hops that grow up the fence of the adjacent tennis courts. This is a nuisance to both them and me. The plants are on my side of the fence.

I have cut and pulled them down and bagged up all the broken up leaves from underneath for composting. I already have more light in the evenings.

How do I kill the things finally? Do I wait for new growth and hit it with Glyphosate?

I have been taunted by an "old boy" who says, "You will never kill that!" He has never tried on his allotment.
