Passiflora caerulea fruits..ideas please !!

Having searched around on the internet, I ascertained that the fruits of passiflora caerulea are edible, but deemed to be "insipid".. I have LOADS of them this year and wondered if anyone had any ideas. They aren't ripe just yet though as they go orange.

I am quite excited as though I have had lots of flowers before, only 1 ripe fruit last year (2nd year after purchase).

Yes, you should wrap the vine around the twine/venetian blind string, and if it falls back down - which it probably will - then tie it loosely to the twine with twist ties, just tight enough to hold it in place. I forgot to mention tying the vine to the twine, I guess because my vines are usually real small when I buy them, and they wind themselves up the twine, with hardly any help from me. Your vines probably didn't get any sunshine on the bare lower foot of them, which caused them not to leaf out there. Eventually, after your vines start to grow, they'll tangle into each other, and I personally don't try to unravel them - it'd drive me crazy! The only rearranging I do is to lift and tie up or wind up pieces that hang down towards the ground. Good luck! MissSherry

It is invasive, unless you prune it. But mostly if you'd prefer it to grow on your bush ( it will take away sunlight from your bush, but will not harm it). IF you have any dead trees in the area, go with that. Dead trees are great for passionfruit. But most people don't eat the skins anyway, surely? I think Paghat means that she eats the fleshy pulp along with the seeds. My understanding is that the fruits are just very bland tasting, compared to the commercially grown ones such as Passiflora edulis. Incidentally, Paghat's website is a mine of information and a very entertaining read.

Somewhere I read you can use it to substitute blackberries in 'Bramble and Apple Pie' but haven't tried it myself. Have also read somewhere you can make jelly (Redcurrant type not the pud!)

The best use for the fruits is to harvest the seeds, grow the seedlings and give them to friends, relatives, local charities etc. This is what I do and insects love them too.
