Can anyone tell me:

If there is a list of books you guys have discussed over the years? If so, where?

If so, are those discussions archived?

I ask this because often I am reading an older book and get interested in what others had to say in a discussion. Another site I am on keeps the discussions up - but it doesn't look like that's possible here.

There is an incomplete archive of interesting threads which I keep up to date. Unfortunately, I'm not as religious about it as I ought to be...

Excellent, thanks martin. I wonder if the site would let us put that somewhere on the home page. In the gardening forum I am in, we have several links like that.

I have sandy soil and in 4 years it has grown quickly to about 6' x 6' from a 1 gallon pot. Last year I cut one down to a stump and it grew about 5 feet during the summer. I have seen some in what is probably part shade in other's yards and it is more of a lime green. Mine have suckered, but I wouldn't say aggressively. Although, some have shown up about 10 feet away from the plant. One popped up on the neighbors side of the fence and she landscaped around it.

Thanks to you both. Floral_uk, that picture is luscious! 2 to 3 feet tall, that is pretty tall. I have wanted some for so long, that the temptation for the ash tree bed has to put them right down in front. I will resist and put them in the back. The bluebells are in the middle; the bed is about 10 feet deep and 40 feet long. The bluebells are gradually seeding, but not taking over by any means. The foliage disappearing works out okay for that spot. I mostly just wanted those large flowers. If I decide I want some in the front, and persistent foliage, I guess IÃ¢ÂÂd better get some fern leaf types as well. Perhaps I should go ahead and plant 4, and just save 2 as the fill ins for the first bed if the potted ones planted there donÃ¢ÂÂt make it. I am concerned about how long I can keep these bareroot, though. I have them in the cool dark garage. Laceyvail, do you have both? Bleeding heart and bluebells? If so, do they bloom at more or less the same time?

Everything I've read says a minimum of six hours of sun, but you are so far south, that I think it would be OK, I'm in Dallas, and a rose on the back side of my house doesn't get that much, but it's really happy, Late afternoon sun, when it's in the 100s can be brutal,

It will be OK with even just a couple of hours of sun - just dappled even, but honestly, moisture really is key here. This is a wetland plant and requires moisture much more than sunlight - it might not be as clear gold but without water, it really cannot thrive unless you have very moisture retentive clay soil. Knowing bugger-all about hostas, I cannot advise either way (not being sure of the best aspects for hostas) but a slope is going to be tricky unless at the bottom of it. Go with the wettest area - it is a tough plant and can easily be moved if you are unhappy with the positioning...also, unless your ground is frozen, I see no reason why not to plant now. I know I am in zone 8 but I am in the habit of planting container grown plants all year round - as long as the soil is not frozen solid - in fact, the next 3 weeks or so are my optimum planting period as I lack irrigation for spring plantings. The golden grass (millium effusum) is considerably more tolerant of both shade and dryness...and is easy from seed.

Just bringing this up to the top before it slips into the Great Black Hole of Lost Posts.
I was reading the link Martin provided above and wondered what has happened to our erudite exchange of opinions that was taking place not so many years ago.
I know that some 'old-timers' feel that RP has rather lost its way and they no longer bother to post here.
Any thoughts on this?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'lost its way'. Things change. People start getting involved in other things. New people with entirely different personalities and interests pop in. Ive seen it on the other forum Im on, and while it saddens me at times (and fortunately the book discussions are well documented there so its easy to go back to those), its also been very interesting conversing with new folks about new topics. If this site stayed static, you'd all be talking to each other forever. Which I guess would be fine - but you'd lose out on the 'new blood' that makes any organization grow.

I have been thinking about what Veer said about this site "losing its way". I am new to the site so I don't see the change but I think I understand what you mean.....

I also would like more in-depth discussion about books I am reading but it seems like I'm not reading the same books as others at the same time or I'm not interested in the books being discussed. I think maybe there are a lot of different readers here with a lot of different tastes so it makes it hard to have a large group discussion about a particular book. For example, Life of Pi is currently a topic. Well, I looked it up and I have no desire to read this book so I won't be participating in the discussion.

This is not to say that I don't enjoy the discussions here and I have received some recommendations for books I would never have found on my own. I also like discussing the other things we have in common related to reading. Like having stacks of TBR books that other friends I have who are not avid readers can't relate to.

Martin thank you for saving those discussions, I loved being able to go back and read them.

I agree with Vee about the old-timers, that was brought home to me even more reading 'names' of people that no longer participate at RP. It would be interesting to know why they no longer are interested. Over the years I have seen many come & go and the ones that used to be very active here are sorely missed - even though I admit I don't post here as much as I used to. The 'tone' here has changed IMO.
