I've never heard of broom plant, but I just bought a Moonlight broom and I can't wait to plant it and see what it looks like as it grows. I have a different view of "invasive" plants. Like weeds, they are super hardy. Unless, they choke out other plants, like kudzu, I don't mind their free spreading habits. The fence on my back property right now is in bloom with the "invasive" yellow honeysuckle and I love it. It smells wonderful, looks very pretty as well. I also have a row of burning bushes along my driveway and they are beautiful, especially in the fall. I've not seen them spread at all, but if they did resow themselves, I'd replant them along other borders of my property. I love the large wild pink roses that grow along fencer ows and bloom freely in the spring. How are they any different than the knockout roses everyone wants to buy. Is it wrong for them to replant themselves instead of having to fuss over having a rosebush that is full of mildew and bugs or have to pay a premium price to own one? They are a superior type of rose in my view and give freely of their beauty. Many trees and plants resow themselves and that is how they survive. What's wrong with that?

HI Barrie, Nice pic. I'm right on the edge of zone 8 and love the unusual plants that neighbors haven't seen, like this one. Would you say that this is a good tree to take cuttings from for indoor floral arrangements?

Hi Guys! I have news: I succeeded to buy the next plants: Phillyrea angustifloia - Fortunately not a small bush already, so it has flowered in spring. In my opinion it's no so fragrant, or maybe my plant needs stabilised more. Altough not a strong, but there was a pleasant, fruity fragrance. Edgeworthia christanta - Mine is not flowered yet, but I go every spring in our botanical garden, to smell a big plant. :) Osmanthus fragrans 'Rubra' (It's the same with aurantiacus?) - I planted it in a sheltered position in spring, I hope it will be all right. It's taller than 1m, so maybe it will flower in autumn. :) Prununs mume (unknown cultivar) - Small plant yet (and there are a few common plants Itea virginica Fothergilla major) And I got the following seeed, waiting to germinate: :) Ginsta aetnensis Cytisus battendieri Ulex europeus And one more question, I dont want to open a new thread, or do I yet? I don't found exact information about pruning Spartium junceum. One site says to prune is spring, other site says prune after flowering. Witch pruning will results more flower?

Shilpa, I love Australian plants! Such an amazing variety of textures and colors; I don't see why any gardener would not want to use them. Especially Eucalyptus and Grevillea. I'm glad your folks have kept the Aussie natives in their yard. Even though I like rare plants from other parts of the world, I have kept quite a few northwest native plants in my garden as well (though I don't bother to take photos of them much). Brian, I planted the E. parvula in summer 1997; it was a little 6" tall plant in a tiny pot. I like it a lot too, but I think its growth form is better when it approaches maturity and starts getting rounded off at the top. That Callistemon is very upright, but I can never get a good pic of the flowers because it is in too much shade and I have to use the flash (with my camera anyways).
