New Garden - need assistance and tips

I was born in South Africa but relocated to the UK last year. As the seasons are totally the opposite over here to what they were in SA I have been having great fun learning everything new.

I have discovered Geraniums (yes, the true ones Johnson's Blue) and Streptocarpus (albeit that it originates from southern Africa)for the first time.

I will be planning a cottage garden in a terraced house garden which is just patio slabs, and mulch mostly and wish to change it to a cottage garden with all the trimmings e.g. pergola, bird bath, etc. It gets the afternoon sun so I am not sure which direction it is in. I also want to plan a rose garden for the front garden which only gets the morning sun - I am afraid that it is not the required 5 hours sun per day that I have read is required - any ideas on what kinds of roses to plant. Any tips/seeds or cuttings would therefore be wonderful to assist me in getting it right from the start. Maybe learn from others mistakes / experts. I only have some hellibore plants, a couple of streprocarpus cuttings that I have just propogated but could get you some SA seeds if you answer by the end of next week (22 July).

Thanks Jenni_L
