Hi All, I was hoping to get help in identifying a tree. The tree is approximately 20-25 feet tall and has distinct warty red seedless berries that are approximately (1/2)to (3/4) inch long. I am hoping to determine if they are harmful to pets. Thanks for your help! Image link:

Well, the verdict is in, and it is not good news. Alas, it is a Carrot Wood. I looked at the links, and a few others, and one picture from a third party source looks like it could have been taken in my front yard, so I feel fairly confident that the nail has been hit on the head. I will yank it out this weekend as it is invasive and threatening to mangroves and we are a literal stones throw from a protected river area and several wonderful mangrove lined canals. Sigh. I'm hesitant to attempt a new Oak based on our last miserable experience. I had hoped this was a nice little sucker. Maybe I'll just bury a handful of acorns and cross my fingers...

Maybe I'm missing something, but there seems to be schism in what you report, Splats, that being between your apparent liking for what you have in that wild yard, and your apparently major efforts to undo it. I do understand you probably are seeking some kind of balance between the wildness of the yard as you inherited it, and the desire on your part for a yard you can "use". I get that. But what I always tell folks who are moving into an existing landscape is to spend some time just learning about what it is you have. There seems to be a good bit of uncertainty on your part as to the ID of many of the plants, yet you've got 7 dumptruck loads of material gone already and still going after more. Maybe I'm missing some key bit here, but I'm confused as to what your overarching goal(s) is/are. +om
