I do not always have access to pumice so I mix it up with whatever grit I have hanging around. Expanded shale. , washed 1/4 Decomposed granite , course red lava sand, perlite. I am not anal retentive. I am more of the "what's in the frig" kind of gardener. I do not know if you are in Florida, California or Texas. The quantities will be important to your location and how humid you are. I know Floridians who grow in 100% grit, and inland Californians who use more humous in the mix. Its a mixed bag here in Texas as U sit under the remnant of Hurricane Harvey who might be leaving 20" on me. I have also gone all summer often without summer moisture. Not this year.

Oh the brown thing was the coconut! I thought that was the ground and the little green sprout on the coconut was the actual coconut (lol)... Thanks for uploading a clearer pic, that cocos definately sprouting. Also, Im not sure if they need a husk. I bought mine already sprouting and it had no husk on it at all. It only had one or two leaves at the time so it was probably a somewhat newly sprouted plant. Im not sure if they took the husk off though and it was growing with one, or if it sprouted without a husk on. Also give it lots of heat and sunlight. When you bring it in give it a southern window if possible, beacause those usually have the heat a coco needs especially on a comfortable sunny winter day outside. My southen window can get to 90 degrees or more for short periods of time on sunny winter days. Good luck with your new coco!

What sort of soil is it in? Is it out in the sun? Is it getting enough water (or too much and soggy)? If your climate is okay then there should be no problems. Coconuts grow on top of the ground, not buried. But part buried shouldn't be too much of a problem. Sometimes you can have a dud plant. Out of hundreds of seed you can get the odd one that's just not quite right and won't do any good. If there's lots of them around the place just try collect some more and leave them to germinate on top of the ground.

That sounds beautiful! I've been thinking of starting a mango tree of my own. If you plan on keeping it small and pruning it I don't see a real problem. I've done a lemon and avocado tree that have fruited in smaller containers. If you're growing it inside you'll probably need a grow light though. I use one called the Aspect and love it. They're beautiful lights that grows my trees but give off nice ambient lighting. You can find it at www.soltechsolutionsllc.com. I also got an email that they're running a fall promo so you can check that out too. Anyway, best of luck!
