My mother-in-law is a professional choir director and has been quite religious all her life. She recommended her favorite fiction to me: Archangel.
For some reason this book drew me in despite some things that should have rubbed me the wrong way. I used to be very religious myself and I like to say that I got older and graducated. Why does that even matter? Because one of the central themes of the book is that doubters who defy God and ask for a sign are struck down in amazing theatrics. That part clearly requires a lot of faith! But I could almost hear the Archangel and Angela sing and last night as I watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics Pavarotti sounded to me like the Archangel.
Archangel is not a masterpiece or anything like that, but it is a great read with a good plot, good writing, etc. What did you think?
