This is one of the more interesting threads I've seen on this subject. On the one hand, the original poster's logic is correct. If the oils of the past were inferior, it's silly to believe that carbon buildup and plug fouling would be intolerable with modern synthetic oils at 20:1. On the other hand, Nevada Walrus makes a good point. In the old days, the more oil we added to the mix the richer we set the carburetor jetting to compensate (2-stroke racing motorcycles.) Many of today's engines don't allow carburetor adjustment, so at some point, more oil could theoretically cause a dangerously lean condition. For what it's worth, I will now be using Mobil 2T, which I finally found at a Twin Cites Autozone store. And I always mix at 32:1. That's my compromise between the 16:1 I ran in the 70's and the 50:1 required by the EPA Nazis.

Steve, you have me scracting my head and thinking more now going back to what i was trying to ssy but have hard time finding proper way. So DNA can change ? I go back now to wonder say a Mission fig if could be traced to be from its roots oversea's and then another growing here that was brought here and can be said for absolute what would the DNA markers say there realted close or maybe exact match? I go back and copy and paste what i said about this as if i try to type it again it might mean something different so .... i tend to lean this way-- DNA may say 2 types are very close and related but not the same, could tree have evolved elsewhere and somehow change to that climate making some markers not exactly alike as if grown i different area's same tree accimilated to the soil and therfore fruit color and leaf color are different-Example as its often heard here that 2 same types grown in different area's have a different leave or slightly different fruit color or even shape. I will be able to see if this is true along with others here as have sent 1 particular tree across country and up as far as Canada, so maybe in 3 or 4 years they can be compared to 1 another, a DNA test of that tree and mine i wonder what would show up in say 50 years from now if both trees survived just a thought that i wll never know answer too. END So i truly wonder if we are now seeing this in the fig world where tree's are very close match as UCDavis studies have found in some types, there was a discussion about how Dark Portuguese and i believe but could be wrong as its been a while since i read that post and Sals were very close i think it was Sals but not sure which. Perhaps this is slowloy happening or maybe just hogwash on my part of thinking? Martin

I read the whole thing, it was amazing, I could not stop, and then later discovered there were more articles. That one and the other two prints, plus all the other good news from the AHS all for only $30 / year. I read several articles twice, should continue that. As a new member I got a $15 coupon to buy hostas at participating vendors like Naylor. Is there an option to read past Journals, I did not come across that yet. I remember someone wrote that we can not read on-line old printed versions (but can buy them), but there was another or more on-line versions I believe. (the AHS forum seems to be inactive?) I will admit that I have not been here much lately because some of us would like a slit where one site would focus oon total garden material such as landscaping and leaning more towards plants and not vegetable gardening. The other site would be for vegetable gardening in Florida. I would like to see the logo plant changed to reflect a more modern look to the page. I would personally like being able to have my picture be posted as part of my name so that when I post people can see what I look like along with my name. I sincerely like HTML capabilities along with the back archives that go back at least a minimum f ten years. I would like the capability of placing a picture of a plant I am seeking to match with one in question in a sise by side comparison so that the person seeling an ID can see what we are referring to without having to give a link. There are more suggestions but I am too tired to think at the moment. I would like Thanks for the improvements thus far.
