Problems in Finding a very beautiful white rose

I had three roots of a very beautiful white rose. But as I am a beginner growing roses, these roots died last winter. It was very bad winter here in Finland. The garden where I bought the roses told me that the rose came from The Netherlands. The rose's name was "North Pole" or "North Pale". It was a very fragrant hybrid tea and the flowers were very large. I have tried to find this rose again, but haven't managed. Has anybody heard about it or is there somewhere some register, where I can ask about this rose?

Why donÂ´t you look up between the species roses? I thik they supposedly are quite hardy...

Hi Ailam,

Are you refering to the rose 'Polareis'? It is a white, semi-double rugosa hybrid that is also fragrant. You can find it here:

Hi, I'm not a grower of roses, but a painter of them. I would like to commend you on these beautiful photographs, including sunlight. I wish that more people would realize that photographing them in sunlight adds another dimension to them, the blue reflecting from the sky back into the shadows, the glow from within the deepest parts of the rose, these are stunning. Thanks for using the beautiful light of the sun in your photos instead of waiting for it to go behind a cloud to take the pictures! Cia

Thanks, linelle! I have some lippage and some unevenness of line but it's really just the nature of the beast. I tried to find a close up photo where you can see clearly. Look at the bottom row to the left. I just remembered something that maybe is relevant - My UCL (leds) have dimmers and I have them at about half intensity so maybe it's not causing shadows which is why it's less obvious. I think your tile is beautiful and that it's just a matter of tweaking your lighting to minimize the shadows. What you don't see can't bother you!

Another fan of White Lightnin' from years past, also looking to add to this garden. Plan to call Roses Unlimited (own root gallons) to check availability myself. The buds are very rounded, but the smaller ones are pointed. I shoved some in a bowl as I was playing Morticia Addams making some cutting to try and root. I does look very much like the rose you fond in Sonoma, catspa, except there is no red in the growth and the buds and flowers have glandular prickle like structures, but maybe it hasn't put forth much new growth. It is highly neglected but the foliage is healthy and hearty! I like that it may be an Alba, it really does look like most of the photos, especially the second and last photos which do not show the new red growth. I knew I could count on you experts! It really is white, which made me wonder after looking at more photos, no yellowish center. A fun find! I found it at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Anderson.

HelpMeFind list over 800 names of white HTs but the only one anything like North Pole is Polar Star aka Polar Stern aka Evita aka TANlarpost. It can grow to a good size but I would never call it VERY fragrant. Hope this helps

North Pole is definitely not Polareis. There is no pink in North Pole.

I have also myself been looking Polar Star and I want to see it in nature. So I'm going to buy it next summer. It looks very much like North Pole. I hope it is the same rose!!!

Hello Ailam,

Why not try "Frau Karl Druschki"? It's one of the beautifulest white rose, and it can do up to zone 4.
One drawback: no scent.
