Duftrosen - Fragrant Roses

Liebe Rosenfreunde,

http://www.welt-der-rosen.de/duftrosen/a_duftrosen.htm

Was haltet Ihr z.

Maria

Sorry, I can't speak German, but I know you are inquiring about what roses are fragrant.

Buff Beauty is a very light caramel/yellow in my garden and has a lovely fragrance.
Felicia is beautiful, slightly arching from the abundance of blooms, also a lovely, fine fragrance. Mme. Alfred Carriere, Gloire de Dijon, Gruss an Teplitz, Souvenir du Dr. Jamain, Louise Odier, Jacques Cartier (or Marchesa Bocella)
Austins---Othello, Gertrude Jekyll, Tamora, Golden Celebration, St. Swithun, Eglantyne, Abraham Darby, Tradescant.

Hybrid Teas--Fragrant Plum, New Zealand, Fragrant Cloud, (Duftwolke, I think) Oklahoma, Fred Loads, Tiffany, Just Joey, Chrysler Imperial, Mr. Lincoln (many people love Mr. Lincoln, but this has not been a good rose for me.

Climbers--New Dawn, White Dawn, Blossomtime, Westerland,
Royal Sunset, Golden Showers, (blooms shatter quickly) Compassion.

I only mentioned roses that I grow.

Liebe Maria,

I get very little scent from Sombreuil (the large-flowered climber). Occasionally its scent wafts down the side yard where it's planted, but that's it. SDLM is only faintly fragrant to me, too. Blush Noisette is said to be one of the most fragrant, and I barely get anything from it. My allergies diminish my sense of smell, I know. Visitors come to the cemetery rose garden declaring that the scent bowls them over as soon as they get out of the car, and I barely notice it. I had a few days of sinus clarity this spring, and was astonished at the fragrance. The damask scent, fortunately, penetrates my congestion, as do musks and a few of the teas. Anita

Straw - That's incredible about your own root Evelyn giving you SO many blooms!! My goodness!!! It sounds like most Austins do better grafted? Oh, that's interesting about Graham Thomas offspring doing well as own root. Gosh, I love your Evelyn, especially in the vase!! Those colors you chose are so beautiful together. Have I asked you how your La Reine does? I can't remember if I did? Mine is in its 2nd year, and it's had about 4 blooms this year. I'll keep it for another year and hope it improves. Thanks about my SMB. :) :) I love that rose SO much...you need one. :) :) You grow a lot of Austins. They do very well for you. Sandy Hook is a beauty!! I'm glad you grow that one. I wish I could smell the fragrance. Evelyn's fragrance sounds wonderful, and it really helps you with your food temptations. :) I would have a very hard time not having sweet things. Yes, you've avoided diabetes, unlike your family. That's hard to do and pretty amazing!! Those blooms are soooo gorgeous!!!! I love everything about your AD and Evelyn blooms. :) :) These are the own root roses I got last year. Most of them died overwinter in the garage: Free Spirit (died), Lady Capri (died), Anuschka (lived), Chippendale (died), Deep Secret (died), Desiree (died), Eisvogel (lived, and I love it!!!), Stiletto (died), La Reine (lived, and hasn't bloomed much), Kaffe Fassett (died), Blue Moonstone (died), Souer Emmanuelle (died), Mme Dubost (died), Peter Mayle (died), Rose Rhapsody (lives, but pm), Well Being (died), and Amazing Grace (died). Well, that was depressing. Sheesh. I think I didn't water them enough in the garage. Anuschka has a wonderful fragrance, but only had one blooming period. So I can't remember what the fragrance was like. Bloomed in July Eisvogel is one that is always fragrant. I love this one. It blooms on the end of long canes that are held gently upright (not stiff). Eisvogel...this is just one of the canes flowering. They last for a very long time. The scent is strongly rosy. I always want to have this rose. It's very healthy, too. Earlier pic (July) full bush shot Yeesh, the money I wasted. Lessons were learned, though. :) I was mixed up with own root and Dr. Huey. I have lots with Dr. Huey from April and Ashley, but only 2 own roots left.

Thank you, Paul! That makes a lot of sense, especially given how fragrant it is. I'll check back in a day or two to see if the colors have changed as the flower opens.

Hallo Maria,

Viel Glueck!

Mike

Hi Pete,
the correct Url of that forum concerning search of rare sorts of roses is: http://www.rareroses.net
Though it is in German you also can wright in English there. They will understand you and give answers also in English.
A more general forum dealing with all sorts of rose questions is for german speaking people
http://forum.planten.de/index.php?board=15
Of course there will be more traffic than in such a special forum.

By the way: Fragrant Roses illustrated with photos and with descriptions you can find also at
