Sorry, I can't speak German, but I know you are inquiring about what roses are fragrant.

Buff Beauty is a very light caramel/yellow in my garden and has a lovely fragrance.
Felicia is beautiful, slightly arching from the abundance of blooms, also a lovely, fine fragrance. Mme. Alfred Carriere, Gloire de Dijon, Gruss an Teplitz, Souvenir du Dr. Jamain, Louise Odier, Jacques Cartier (or Marchesa Bocella)
Austins---Othello, Gertrude Jekyll, Tamora, Golden Celebration, St. Swithun, Eglantyne, Abraham Darby, Tradescant.

Hybrid Teas--Fragrant Plum, New Zealand, Fragrant Cloud, (Duftwolke, I think) Oklahoma, Fred Loads, Tiffany, Just Joey, Chrysler Imperial, Mr. Lincoln (many people love Mr. Lincoln, but this has not been a good rose for me.

Climbers--New Dawn, White Dawn, Blossomtime, Westerland,
Royal Sunset, Golden Showers, (blooms shatter quickly) Compassion.

I only mentioned roses that I grow.

Ich habe nie Ã¶ffentlich etwas auf Deutch gechrieben, aber ich sehe dass wir beide dasselbe "Hobby" haben (duftende Rosen), und werde deswegen versuchen Ihnen zu antworten (und bitte um Verstendnis fÃ¼r meine sprachlichen Fehler). FÃ¼r mich ist auch das wichtigste Kriterium der Duft, und am besten sollten sie auch rosa sein. Ich wohne in Norwegen, und die Rosen mÃ¼ssen desvegen auch unsere klima wiederstehen. In meinem Garten habe ich am meistens historische Rosen und Austinrosen (Louise Odier, Zephirine Drouhin, Jacques Cartier, Souvenir de la Malmaison, Honorine de Brabant, Reine Victoria, Reine des Violettes, KÃ¶negin von DÃ¤nemark, Rose de Rescht, Gertrude Jekyll, Mary Rose, Wenlock, und einige moderne Rosen. Blue Moon, Blue Parfum, Romanze, Big Purple, Criterion, Chicago Peace, Therese Bugnet und Roseraye de l'Hay. Die sind alle Rosen mit ein sehr starkes Duft. Buff Beauty kenne ich nicht, weil ich noch keine gelbe Rosen habe, aber ich weiss dass diese Rose auch ein schÃ¶nes Duft hat. Welche Rosen haben Sie selbst in ihren Garten, und welche mÃ¶chten Sie noch kaufen?

Lol, this so many wonderful selections I'm having a hard time picking! I found a 3 gallon America rose at a private nursery, I remembered the name from this thread and it was the only fragrant rose in the lot, so I went for it. It has a lovely salmon pink color that turned out to be a great compromise between the decking and white building. The clematis Perle d' Azur is trained up the wall and the rose went in front of it next to a Clematis Arabella intended to scramble trough the border. What surprised me was how much clay I found about 2 feet down while back digging the bed. I dunked two bags of mushroom compost and mixed it up with two bags of fine gravel and one bag of sand but I'm kind of worried about what will happen to the root a few years down the line? Any predictions? Is this enough amending ? I left the hose on to soak the bush, a small trickle for about 45 mins, and when the bed was over flowing I turned it off and it took about 25 mins for the standing water to drain away. This was after I had replaced about 8'x2'x2' of the old dirt. Anybody with more experience who can give me more insight on how this will play in to it's health? There's a few spots on the leaves that I suspect is the dreaded blackspot. I live inland, due west of Chicago, so not exactly coastal climate but still lots of humidity in the summer. I made sure to clear about a foot between plant and wall and also at some distance from where another rosebush been before, I cleared about 2 feet from the original site but I essentially replaced all the dirt as well. I made sure of sinking the bush level with the dirt in the pot per instructions. As far as I could discern, it's not a grafted plant, I felt up the trunk all the way down the to the ball of dirt and felt no bump. I'm very drawn to the Romantica and English roses and am interested to learn more about the two series, My new Colette is coming in this weekend with a Stormy weather who's supposedly a purple rose. These will be my trial experience before I commit to a full rose garden. I understand ramblers only bloom once, no? How do I know the difference between a rambler and a climber? What is the difference between a Grandiflora and a Wicheriiana? My roses must be of the resilient kind and besides generous amounts of mushroom compost and a good trellis will have to fend for themselves. No spray, no chemicals. I'm staying clear of any grafted stock and no Tea roses. What would be the best US purveyors of either the Romantica or the English series? Is it possible to buy rootstock older than a year trough mail order? Also, can anyone advice me on good online sources for reading up on the different categories ? I'd like to hear from someone who grows the Zepherine Drouhin, Queen of Sweden, or the Polka in zone 5. My priorities are as follows: Repeat bloom, disease resistance, fragrance, cut life, color... Deborah, you want to be a grumpy old lady like me? I'm very flattered. Newer Angel Face is doing well in a back flower bed, and blooming a lot, but my older one in front is the obsession of a hungry deer which keeps munching it and its neighbor Young Lycidas. Poor YL has had an awful year, starting with cane borers. I just know it's the same irritating deer. He/she only eats the blooms on those two roses. No deer pesters any other front yard roses. I'm not used to having to spray repellent in the front flower beds. Grumble grump. I hope your Angel Face likes California, It seems like such a Cal rose. New AF had the advantage of starting out as a five gallon plant, already in bloom when I picked her up at the nursery. She's pinker than the old Angel Face, and I can't figure out why the color difference, but I have a theory for later some time. My daughter grew a hedge of the Lavender Simplicity, and it was lovely. Diane Newer Angel Face likes being Mickey Mouse. When Angel Face was brand new last summer, she loved it on the patio, but in September 2024, she went into the ground and likes it there, too.

Sorry I don’t have any panoramic photos — I moved to a smaller house a few months ago, and sadly had to reduce my roses to just 50 varieties. I’m glad you enjoyed Vienna! Or maybe it’s due to Sydney’s climate? Eine deutschprachige forum gibt es unter "www.rarerosen.de" aber es scheint daB nicht vielen gehen dort.

Hallo Maria,

fast alle 'Englische Rosen' (die Rosen, die David Austin hybridiziert hat) duften. Meine Empfehlung waere 'Jude the Obscure', obwohl sie den Regen nicht so sehr mag. Es gibt sowieso viele andere Arten aber vielleicht kriegst Du mehr information unter www.davidaustinroses.com. Eine andere hilfreiche Website ist www.helpmefind.com, besonders wenn Du ein bisschen Englisch kannst.

Though it is in German you also can wright in English there. They will understand you and give answers also in English.
