I am currently building my new pond. I am recording a diary of the project which is available online.

Hi Daniel,
I think you are doing okay. It is a good thing to set things out and experiment before finally putting all in place permanantly. The only thing I would say is make it as big as you think you will want it, then increase it !! as no matter how much we think it is right we always want another bigger pond. I am on to my fourth now. I started with a tiny preformed kidneybowl shape and now have a 17ft by 12ft pond. (And I would like it bigger still but have stopped myself)
I think the idea of your bricks hiding the liner so making it able to be a higher water level is an excellent idea. How will you actually get the bricks to seal onto the liner? I know that some people cut their liners and then realise that it is too short and others sometimes don't get the levels straight so have a lot of liner showing in places, which I think looks awfull.

Hi there Jane! I have newspaper under the new dirt, it creates a barrier for a while and also kills the grass so if you don't need to dig too deep it makes things easier! I also like how it eventually composts itself so i am adding to the earth at the same time! I used fabric weed barrier near the back of the falls because i have been fighting a thistle infestation for a few years now, my previous neighbour just let them grow and seed and they are so hard to get rid of!! Starting My New Pond With Stream Project

13.5 hours into the rebuild....I could not believe all the aquatic life that I have found in that pond..absolutely amazing..I transplanted some small fry in the stream today...the liner in the old pond is totally exposed now..5"-6" of water remains in the old pond..water lettuce out the wazooo LOL..I'm going to make a skippy style filter at the start of the stream...so tomorrow I'll be shopping at tractor supply...I'll fill the stock tank up with the remaining pond water and transfer my fish to that...then I'll move the main liner to the new main pond and cover everything with rocks...hope to be done with that by Sunday evening...including filling up the new pond with water...I'll let it sit for 24 hours then introduce the fish to their new home....after that I'll work on getting the plumbing finished and the cover up of the filtration device...oh yeah...I'm getting rid of the largemouth bass...they keep me from having fantails LOL....Happy POnding!! So, it's been a tough few days, as we went back and forth with the PB. They mucked up on the measurements, but - hats off to them - they have owned their mistake. There's no avoiding the fact that we are going to lose more than they, but my interest is in getting a great final product, and I guess the price we will have to pay is a little steeper than we had anticipated! In addition to having to cut about a quarter of our Pergola away, we are also going to be losing nearly half of the remaining lawn, as the WHOLE pool has to move over 2 feet. Instead of a 18' by 7' lawn area, we are now left with a 16' by 5' area. Big bummer. So, end result is we have lost all our swings, and a quarter of the Pergola, and a half of remaining lawn. that's the bad news... The good news (there is good news!) is that the PB came out on Saturday, admitted his error, and we negotiated that he will certainly fix everything so it works functionally and aesthetically (step 1), but also that he will undertake to make some other tweaks that would normally have meant overages, at no cost to ourselves. Additionally, ANY and all further surprises or necessary fixes will be covered by them. So, I've lost a lot of the functionality of my garden, but I'm getting (I hope!) peace of mind for the rest of the project, no financial overages, no surprises that I have to deal with, and the pool I contracted to have built. Granted, we're far from done here (we've only just begun!), but the PB's willingness to step up and take responsibility was admirable. They could have disappeared, as so many contractors seem to often do. They could have forced me to take this to court. Instead, they conscientiously sought to find a solution that would be acceptable to all of us. They are certainly getting the better end of the deal, but they are also sharing some of the pain! So long as the rest goes (no pun intended) swimmingly, and we get a fabulous end result that lasts us for years and years, I'm cool! My daughter's enjoying it, at least!

This one is so large and powerful. I've been watching it since it was a wave and early on was concerned it might enter the Gulf. The tracks are all over the place now and I just hope it goes out to sea for everyones sake. I am really concerned about this one though. If you would like I have links to some really great forecast sites.

Hi,

Yes I did use word, I could have done it the old HTML way but i'm too lazy, plus word seems to work well.

I have made it as big as I can, mainly because it will cost too much to build it any bigger, also I would have to increase pump and filter capacity.

I would like the liner that way for the exact reason that it hides it and also if the wall isn't exactly level it disguises that as well. I think the trick is to get a runny adhesive and cover the liner with sand at the point the bricks will be cemented. Leave to dry to give a rough surface with some bite to cement.

Incidently pumps will be a Bladgon Torrent 4000LPH pump and a Trident maximum 600LPH pump. The Bladgon will pump up to 3 skippy filters (like the green ones in the picture) which will reduce flow rate in the tanks to 1200LPH ish accounting for head loss per tank. These will then outflow into another tub possibly via a spraybar containing Kaldnes K1 which will be aerated by airstones before returning to the pond.
