Post winter no-shows

I'm really disappointed to find that only one out of 7 or so well-established delphiniums seems to have deigned to put in an appearance after the winter. Maybe my rather stringent control techniques have finally polished them off? I'm going to really miss them, even if the flowers are over fairly fast. I find they last reasonably well, with a second flush of smaller spikes. I grew them from seed and I loved seeing the variation of flower shape and colour.

Anyone know why it might have happened? I think the plants were about 6 years old. The one that survived got moved last spring.

And anyone else got any absent friends?
