Tree planting

Probably everyone on the planet knew this, apart from me...

I have been watching a re-run of 'A Year at Kew Gardens' and they say that when planting a tree Do Not place in a circular hole, but create a square one instead. It is proven that the roots break through the square walls and spread well, but in a circular hole, the roots often spiral round and become inpacted before breaking through into new soil.
