koi not eating

ive just put some more koi into my pond and i had some in there before over last couple of days i have noticed that 1 of my koi i got 2 years ago is not eating all it does is swim around the bottom then when i feed them it comes up but does not eat anything the water quality has been checked by the shop where i bought some fish from and they said the water is fine

can anyone suggest to me what it can be cause it was eating fine

more info could help - what tests did the shop do? size of pond, volume, how many fish init ect.Get the shop to do a skin scrap, could be parasites?

fish can go without food for 150 days with no ill affect so don,t worry to much.

if the fish is feeling crook it may be the temp change or it has a sore on the mouth or many other things.

leave it a little while and c how it goes but if u see any problems with its scales have it out straight away as this many start a problem with the whole pond.

dont let a shop sell u this and that @ silly prices because some do.

malachite seems to sort most things out.

the thing is you dont no how old the fish is unless u reared it yourself so maybe it ready for the fish pond in the sky.

any way something to think over.

Large bullfrogs are a tadpole for 2 years. If things ate them ther would be no frogs on earth. The way they have protection is their Tails. If I put 3 five gal buckets of bulfrog tadpoles in a take on my fish truck an a fish gets in there the fish will be dead in a few mins. This is because of the poison in the tadpoles tails getting into the water. So no fish will eat tadpoles. Now I have seen here Hybrid bluegills eat toad tadpoles. This is because a toad is a tadpole just a few weeks and does not have the 2 years tail protection like the big frogs need. I ahv raised fish 40 years now and hate having 50,000 frog tadpoles in apond with fish then drain it and have to SORT by hand 1-2-3-4-50,000 tadpoles from the fish. Bar graders do not work if the fish are the same size, you have be careful not to mix then in a small tank and kill fish. My fish farm is for sale now and hope i do not have sort tadpoles soon :( rest my life :( Type LIVE FISH OF INDIANA for photos --i dont think i still haev tadpole pictures there ?

midwest, you can tell if they are not getting enough. Slow growth rate is one sign....but that may not be such a bad thing for smaller ponds. When they are REALLY getting too little feed, you may notice the head seems larger in proportion to the rest of the fish. A healthy male koi body's will taper out a little from behind the skull, a female will taper out a lot. Healthy females are built just like a torpedo. In a fish that is starving, you will see the body dip in right behind the skull. I'll see if I can find some pictures on the web somewhere of what a starving fish looks like. But the big head is a pretty obvious sign.

Zinnia - if your 6 to 8 inch trout were eating 1 to 2 inch fry I would imagine a 14 inch trout can eat a 4 inch fish. I know why you got the trout to eat the excess goldfish and they did their job and then you said you would fry up the trout before the warm water killed them, but I'll never understand why people load their ponds with incompatible species with large size differences unless they want the predation. Hopefully the koi are hiding but if they are not I wonder what the plan is for the trout. I'm going to start a thread entitled 'can i keep 14" snapping turtles with baby ducks?'

It took almost a full week for my new fish to start eating. They just wanted to hide. Now they're little piggies. I was fretting over it too but I just kept offering it and sitting quietly next to the tank (they were in a quarantine tub) till they got used to me. Bet yours will be eating this weekend. Vanessa

I'd keep a close eye on it as you said you've introduced new koi and this happened after that. I'd say you brought something into the pond with the new fish. If possible I'd have the poorly koi scraped and scoped for parasites. Otherwise just make sure it doesn't get any worse and if other fish get ill then you need to treat them.
