Koi won't eat

I recently changed my little koi's food from sinking to floating in order to entice them to come out more. But now they won't eat! I don't think they realize that it is food, how can I encourage them to eat? I usually splash the water to let them know and when the food starts to soften I'll push it down. Please help before my fish starve!

Your fish won't starve since there is plenty of natural food in the pond.

Just throw in a little bit and remove it after a while if they don't eat it.

They will soon get the hang of eating on the surface.

They will eat on the dead remains but usually you will find bits and pieces in there. Raccoons might be able to get up on a balcony and they will carry them off.

Very sorry for your loss, Paisley. I've put 9 to sleep. Of my four left, one is deaf and blind in one eye and it won't be long; one of the others has oral cancer that is being treated by cauterization and antibiotics (of all things); another has had benign tumors removed from his ears, and the oldest is in the best health of all! I hope you get over your grief soon. We'll all be thinking of you... Nelson

I do have tons of mosquito fish in the pond, so I don't know if they are eating those. When I throw fish food in there, all the little mosquito fish swim around the food. When the koi go to open their mouth to eat the food, they get some of the mosquito fish as part of their meal.
