Kim and Camp, thanks for responding. No, not near the entrance to the Australian garden. Rather, it is at the end of the long pergola, (not on the pergola itself) mounding by the sidewalk near the "Tea Room" entrance, across from that bed of 'Sunsprite' (or is it 'Sun Flare'?) I've never seen it in bloom before; at other times of the year it is all foliage and no flowers. The flowers were small, perhaps 2.25-2.5" but not tiny (1"). I've seen 'Mermaid', and the flowers were larger. I was going to sniff for a fragrance, but there seemed to be at least one bee, if not several, in each flower. I looked around the base quite a while for a tag, and there wasn't one. Must complain to Tom Carruth! ;^) The other thing I noticed new was the appearance of a few odd HTs in the big Austin beds. For example 'Rock And Roll' had been stuck in an empty spot next to 'The Nun', I think it was. Someone with a sense of humor?

I really need to contact the nursery again. I had called when Souvenir de St. Ann's turned out to not be her (it has long canes and bloomed a single canary yellow), and I was supposed to get a replacement but haven't heard anything back in a while. I didn't call about the other two yet. I guess I was worried they would think I was making it all up. I'll send the owner an e-mail. I really hate to name them at this point, on the internet. The previous order of bands I had gotten from them were all fine and are doing well in pots. Sandy

What fun to see all these! Of the new introductions, I think the hybrid rugosa 'Wild Spice' rates a mention! I once had a hedge of Rosarie de l'Hay, one of my earliest to bloom, and it also had a glorious clove-spiked fragrance. Most rugosas share a unique quality to their scent. Glad to see 'Parole' on the list--a Kordes also sold as Buxom Beauty, a rose which leaped onto my wish list the first I heard of it!

Would you mind to take a look at some photos/ descriptions I have posted on the Name that Rose forum'? I'm trying to get positive ID's for some roses at the Idaho Botanical Garden that have no labels. An old map shows that 'Bloomfield Dainty' was planted in this particular spot at one time, but I think it may have been replaced with 'Fruhlingsgold' at a later date. I don't personally know anyone who grows either rose, so I'm having a hard time getting a definite ID on it. Thanks! Here is a link that might be useful: Is this 'Fruhlingsgold'?
