Detergent in pond?

Realise you can get a certain amount of surface foaming due to naturally occurring proteins but this morning awoke to see my pond looking a bit like a bubble bath.

I suspect detergent. This happened once before some years ago and I found out later a local kid was lobbing detergent tablets over the (high) fence. On that occasion I confirmed detergent by paying a local laboratory for a water analysis - expensive and inconvenient.

Two questions:

1. Is there a simple home test to check for the presence of detergent?

2. Can anyone conceive a naturally occurring phenomenon that could lead to such a dramatic increase of protein?

TIA

Alex
