My series of choice is the Celebrity series. I have no idea what the temps. get like where you are, but here in Michigan they do quite well. I cut plants back by about 1/2 about early August, and then they just keep on going.

If you don't want to repaint your box a lighter color, start over from the inside. Empty the box. Line with styrofoam, but do not cover the drain holes. Fill with good potting mix 1/3-1/2 full. Sprinkle lightly with slow release container formula fertilizing granules. Liberally add water-grabbing crystals. Moisten soil. Soak plants 10-20 minutes and plant as usual. Water thoroughly. Cover topsoil with dry sphagnum moss (this will provide shade for the base of the plants and suppress water evaporation, as well as elevate vines away from the hot surface of the container) Hand-water daily early to mid-morning until new growth appears, then water 2-4 times a week. It is a good idea to remove all flowers before planting to encourage root growth. Don't worry, you'll have the flowers back in abundance in no time. I have 2 midnight blue boxes and have kept asparagus fern, marigolds, english ivy, geraniums,moss rose and coleus thriving down here in central Florida. Good luck!

As far as water filters, i have a aquasona. They are pretty cheap, but the custer service could be better. To really take advantage you have to get the water for life program.. All in all, im happy with it. You could even get a cheap carbon filter At the big box stores, its better than no filter. " Bathtubs in this area get orange, don't know if thats the mill" My shower filter head gets orange/pink deposits.. I wonder what that is.. My water filter should of took it out.. I wonder if it is just bacteria or mold or something... Although, im not going to denounce if there is chemical pollution.. In that case, you need a water test. While, im sure the plants do update some toxins, the microorganisms in the soil does the majority of the "detoxification". Also, I would still grow your own food. It's still soo much healthier than the grocery store.. Dont let thT stop you from growing your food. The benefits of eating that food outweight the potential toxins.. If your that concerned, again look up dr. Elian inghan compost tea. You basically spray the good bacteria and fungus on the plant and it leaves a protective coating.. Fighting off pathogens, and engulfing toxins.. "Probably the emf is worse here too - mybe its just all of it. Neighbor has a tower in their backyard - its not a big place." What your neighbor has big towers or what? Man, you are really in bad shape huh..

My daughter's balcony in London (4th floor) has Trachelospermum jasminoides and Lonicera sempervirens. She has also stuck in a Loganberry on a whim. I suspect the micro climate in London may be a little warmer than Antwerp but not much. Morning Glory needs sun to open and could be closed much of the time in a cloudy maritime climate. They are not invasive in our climate - too cold - in fact they are usually disappointing imo. The only Passion flower which would survive for you is Passiflora caerulea and that gets tatty in high winds. Also if you have salt winds the foliage will burn. Malabar spinach won't grow for you - insufficient heat. Thunbergia is very ifffy and is a tender annual for us. Aristolochia is tender too. Sweet Peas will be destroyed by the wind. I would recommend Runner Beans. They do well in pots. Akebia quinata is a possibility as are various Clematis. You could try Wisteria around the railing but it would need strict pruning. Since our buildings don't have siding it won't rip off the wall.
