Sasha, it does have a lot of good roots, all firm, so I guess it's just seeing the size of the ball that scared me. It never even sent roots down into the bottom half of the pot I had it in, so I hope repotting it will change that. Toni, the trees are great, no brown needles, no droopiness, I wanted to repot simply because I knew nothing about plants when I received the NIP, and with no growth, wanted to make sure the roots were okay. TJ, I've wondered about separating the trunks more, and may try to tease the roots apart, but I'll stop before anything rips! Shiver, I think 6" may be the way to go... it was in an 8" when I bought it, and I put it in a 10", so going down to 6" (hopefully I can find one that won't tip!) sounds reasonable. Amccour, I don't know how long the little one had been there, it was hiding in the middle of the other four trees, but it does have its own root system that was just a lot more shallow than the other. Brittany, as PC had mentioned, the Spanish (not French, --they croaked in the first summer) lavender I had reseeded like crazy. In 3 years I started out with 2 plants, and by the time I left I had well over 50 (most of them seedlings). I had one plant survive for three years, but the others would all croak around October (I really don't know why). They were planted in an area which used to be an old playground on the west side of my house. I also had plumeria, aloe and a few other plants in the area. I watered them maybe once a week in the summer and that was it. I started noticing the plethora of seedlings especially last fall and let them develop and gave tons away before I moved out. I had sort of mulched over them in prior years. I think the key is good drainage, despite the sun. I never fertilized them, although I did mulch the area every year (keep in mind is was almost pure sand they were planted in). I think planting them in a lean well draining soil in the ground is the key. They don't like rich soils or having "wet feet" and they like the sun. So, if you have them in the ground, make sure that it drains well. I think on sloped areas where some people plant lantanas are good sites for lavender. As for why mine kept expiring in October after the heat was gone, I haven't a clue. Maybe they were so wound up trying to survive our summers that the nice weather threw them for a loop. French lavender is on my "Do Not Buy" list after my experience with it. I will substitute the Mexican bush sage (Salvia leucantha) in its place to get the desired effects. I had the French lavender underplanted among my roses and they were all gone by July, after I had planted them in April. Lesson learned. HTH

Hi, Overwatering is definitely an issue with passionflower vines. They prefer well drained soil with sunshine. 'Lavender Lady' is also prone to a virus that causes discoloration to the leaves, but is usually not a cause of serious damage. Spider-mites cause a more "crunchy" looking leaf with discoloration and damage. Probably overwatering is the problem. It roots easily from cuttings, so if you need to reestablish your vines elsewhere, you can start some new plants. They are big butterfly and bee attractants, it's a vigorous and free flowering passionflower and new plants will pop up nearby.

Hi, this may not be the right forum but it's a " tree in a pot" question so I'll give it a go.. The norfolks I have came 3 trunks to a pot. Should I separate them while they are still small ( about an inch) or just let them continue to grow as a group? I have another that's about a foot tall but the roots may be too intertwined to separate. Also any thoughts on soil or mixes that they seem to prefer? Thanks
