What are these 'eggs'

In dealing with my "detergent" problem (see post May 30, 05 at 23:27) I have just noticed something else. Since, on the face of it, it doesnÂt appear to be related to the previous problem I have made it a separate post.

Clinging to a film of blanket-weed on the pond sides there are 1000s of what looks like eggs. The pond is inhabited by three large koi about 2 feet nose to tail-fin, and one similarly sized golden orfe. The significance of size is that IÂve had these fish from around 6 inches long and in all the years of growth they have never spawned. So it would be surprising (to me, at least) if they have now.

The eggs are about 1-2 mm diameter, whitish in colour, and surrounded by a hazy filament. Get hold of one and the bit in the middle is spherical and quite firm. Never seen anything quite like this before. Any ideas?
